NS-10's

Post by taggart »

Hey, everybody! I was thinking about mounting my NS-10's on the wall. Do I dare? Will I need to drill into my babies or is there an alternative? Any advice will be immediately deleted...Just kidding! Thanks, in advance for any help you can give.

Oh never drill into a monitor, that's the first way to kill it's cabinet design. I forget the company, but there is a company out there that makes wall-mounts and they are really good!
Thank you,

Hey, Brad
Thanks for the reply. If you come across the company you were thinking of, let me know.
I've done a TON of searching. The wall mounts I've seen look like some sort of plate mounted to the speaker and then mounted to the wall with an arm or something. That's why I asked about the drilling. Of course, I never would.
I'm just looking around for some alternatives to the "big stands". Although, they may be more stable than wall mounts.
And, I suppose de-coupling the speakers from the wall once they're mounted might be an issue. So many issues!
Just thinking out loud. I'll stop now!

Yeah, Brad. I'm considering mounting my old monitors in my "other" room when my Adams come in. I'd like a source for wall mounts as well. Could you research that for us. Thanks in advance.

Sure, let me ask around--I'm sure someone remembers. Hey, I have to know some 20,000 items at any one time, I guess it's okay to forget a few here and there! 8)

kgdrum to the rescue! :D
Here's another website with a picture on it. It's not the "closeout" site that kgdrum linked to.

I bought two TV wall mounts with swivel platform angled at 0-15 degrees.

I put some damping material underneath each monitor andstrap them down with the safety straps that were included.

they were at Walmart for about $20 something dollars each.

they work great. I put some owns corning 705 behind each one to dampen the Bass reflections. I don't have any buss or vibration at all, and I can mount them at any height that I wanted to.

I was really plesed with them. I can turn them at any angle or direction that I want.

The NS-10s on the wall aren't going to be used for detailed sound work, are they?

Against the wall is a no-no for that, I'm pretty sure.

Good point, JohnnyTwinKittens. :D

Plus, they're hyped in the low end anyway, so the "near-the-wall proximity effect" would make it a double-whammy.
Probably not bad for impressing clients, though.

You could also look at Markertek.com. They have an abundance of AV gizmos.

Well, technically, I don't think the NS-10's themselves are to be used for detailed sound work. But that's all I've got for now. Plus, I have some treatment plans for the wall.

I guess I've always assumed they're fairly flat (as in "frequency" and "excitement-wise"). However the mixes do "travel" awfully well to other systems.
By the way, Monkey Man...Love the new avatar. Is that a gibbon, or a lemur?
It's all good...(are the kids still saying that?) :?

Hang on, let me ask the hangers-on... I mean the ankle-biters... I mean the band...
