Mighty Mouse Won't Scroll Down

Post by buzzsmith »

Hi, all...

This is an intermittent problem and it's happening again today.

I can scroll left, right and up but not down.

I've tried...

Rebooting
Unplugging the mouse and replugging
Repair permissions
Check all preferences
Ran all Unix maintenance procedures (Mac Janitor)

Any thoughts?

BTW, using the Control / Scroll wheel combo to zoom in works fine, but I can't scroll back out! Talk about tricky navigation to find the Apple menu to shutdown!

It's simply dirty inside. There are numerous threads all over the internet describing ways to clean it. Unfortunately, it's not easily disassembled, and it "could" be broken if you try to take it apart.
This is the easiest fix:
unplug it, moisten the scrollball just a little with rubbing alcohol, then turn it upside down on a clean sheet of paper and press semi-firmly while moving it around on the scrollball for awhile.
It has always worked for me (so far).

Bingo!

Thanks for the tip, Mike!

My next step was to Google "Apple Mighty Mouse Won't Scroll"

Glad it worked. I've had to do this a few times for both my wired and my wireless Mighty Mouse.
It's hard enough to keep clean, but it doesn't help that the cat thinks its fun to lay on top of it.

I have 2 cats...why is it that they always want to be where you are or where you were?

And when they decide to sharpen their claws (which we try to keep trimmed) they pick the most expensive or newest things in the house to scratch or pull on?

(Where is that water pistol?)

I guess they want to remind us that they are allowing us to live with them!
