Peak Pro 5.2 for $199?

Post by bayswater »

I just received an offer for an upgrade from Peak LE 4 which I got for a song, to Pro 5.2 for $199. I use Quattro DSP for 2 track stuff, but wonder whether the 2.5 update will ever happen. What do people think? Is Peak Pro a good supplement to DP?

Peak Pro is great. Diehard users of Wavelab might disagree, but Wavelab is PC only anyway.

The $199 upgrade from Peak LE is exactly what I did - I highly recommend it.

What, specifically does Peak Pro have or do, for the DP user, that Peak LE doesn't do? I've used Peak LE for years, never felt it was missing anything I needed, even though I get promotional offers every so often to jump up to Peak Pro. Never saw a concrete reason to do it.

That's the question. I ran through the on line video and saw a lot about CD production and some nice looking plugs, but I have a load of plugs and Toast 8, so wondering whether there is enough in it.

Peak LE allows only one plug-in at a time. That's for starters. I also know there is a difference with converting markers to track indicators for CD creation.

If you do your mastering in DP, the single plug in issue isn't as big, but depending on the types of files you are working, going "pro" could give you more CD authoring options.

Thanks. That brought me back to earth. No so much the difference between Pro and LE, but that the stuff I'd like in Pro, I have in Quattro.

This from the manual (which is not up to date). There is more here:
http://www.i3net.it/FreeDownload/DSP-Qu ... Manual.pdf
The function Find Peak and RMS informs you about the Peak level
(expressed as absolute value and dB), position (frame and time location)
and RMS (Root Mean Square) values (expressed as percentage % and dB).
To launch the operation of Find Peak and RMS, you can use the command
in the menu Processing->Find Peak and RMS.
On the bottom part of the dialog, DSP-Quattro shows also the number of
clips, defined as the points where the waveform reaches the maximum
values of ••“1.0 or 1.0, and the ratio between the number of clips and the
number of frames of the Audio File.
On exit, DSP-Quattro allows you to add a Generic Marker at the position of
the detected peak (or at the position of the first clip, if any). If you want to
add a marker, activate the corresponding check box.
