Finally got my Projectmix back

Post by jlaudon »

It's been 5 months in the shop, and after contacting the M-audio US guys directly, I finally got a new unit, but had to pay for the shipping (!) from the factory in China to HK.

I have a new song lyric I've just made up... "The Projectmix is leaving home, heading out the door, my wallet is now coming out to get that N.I. Kore..."

I think I'm going nuts... :?

Well, I thought about what might be coming up for KORE with all the sales, proably a MKII or something, but it seemed a good deal, so I went for it (at Tsang Fook on Nathan Rd. :) )

So far so good - just have to reinstall all the VST versions of Komplete 4, which should be painless (KORE only sees the VST versions in standalone).

I like those 8 knobs tweaking the sounds esp. in Massive (and the KORE plugin - very handy)

That's a bummer. I just recently had to send my Project Mix down to Melbourne (Australia) to get fixed under warranty. Within a week there was a knock at my door and a courier delivered a brand new one.

I'm starting to think there's some good reasons why the Project Mix is so 'competitively' priced. It's certainly has one of the most unreliable drivers I've ever used. As a control surface it's pretty good though.

man you guys are scaring me... I have 3 of them and they keep working fine. I always turn them on last and I can't have the FW interface open while Liquid Mix is going. So are you dumping it?

yeah, mine's for sale - I plugged it in once to make sure it works ok, and put it back in the box. I had to decide if I wanted to keep it, and use it instead of the Saffire Pro, (and get an Alphatrack), but the Saffire Pro won.

The PM worked fine this time, except both on the headphone and main out volume knobs (and dragging the fader in the software control panel), it always jumps and stutters, and finally finds the volume I set - not smooth at all - I'll miss the faders, and the look too, but as you guys know, over the past few months (actually half year), it's been a major headache for me.

Just to weigh in - I've had mine about 5 or 6 mo.s and have been enjoying it with no major problems. Volume outpur control has always been less than perfect however. On the G5 imac it would make noise as you turned it up or down. Now with a macbook pro dual core 2 pentium and the current driver I do sometimes have to manipulate the virtual nob on the control software to get playback to come through -though now stepping up or down is quiet.

With the behringer rackspace adat input I'm getting 16 tracks in reliably- plus the control surface (plus the full copy of ableton live). At this price point I am very satisfied. It is not pro gear but does a darn good job (with minor imperfections ) of imitating it. I'm hoping it stays that way for me.

Has anyone figured how to have the sequence show tracks independent of the PM selected bank of tracks ? I would love to have the option of turning off whatever links the tracks displayed in DP to the bank of tracks selected on the PM.

For the time being I'll be soldiering on with the Project-Mix, because the only other option for me is my Digi 002r - and don't get me started on how crap that is with DP!

Ultimately I think I'd like to get an RME Fireface 800 and just use the Project Mix as a control surface.

The two things that really bug me about the Project Mix are:

1. The fact that the main output volume knob on the device is actually a controller which controls the software control panel. Mine always glitches whenever turning the output volume up or down during playback - which makes it hard to find the right level.

2. Having to hit the 'reset' button on the (software) control panel all the time. Particularly when setting up the digital inputs. I'll get no sound being routed to the main outputs and I have to hit 'reset' to get it working again - but then I have to re-do all my settings.
