This forum is for seeking solutions to technical problems involving Digital Performer and/or plug-ins on MacOS, as well as feature requests, criticisms, comparison to other DAWs.

Are we supposed to just sit here and wait to see if DP has to run in Rosette in the end or will the boys get busy with Binary and then will we know what the f is going on so we can plan?
If there was ever a time to change the customer relations for the positive, this is it!.
I've mentioned my displeasure with MOTU's "there's-no-problem-until-we've-fixed-the-problem" PR stance before. In this case, however, they're probably contractually bound to be closed-lipped.
I'd think it'd behoove them to port DP in some permutation to WinBoxes, given the exorbinant number of users out there. In the past, their response to that was always predicated by freak barometric changes in Hades. Maybe now their inside track with Beelzebub Corp. might instigate some change?
...reminds me of one of the cutest BD cards I ever saw that we gave our bass player years ago...On the front of the card it had two ewes, a hippoptamus, and 2 or 3 birds...when you opened it it said...
"Hippo, Birdies, two ewes!"

I'd like to know if they purchase the development computer. That alone would gives us all some hope.
I have my Nuendo 3 backup plan in place and I feel very lucky I could do that but I really love DP.
The more feedback I hear from this would make me more apt to stay around a while.
A statement page added to UAs site on things certainly didn't hurt UA on UAD1/10.4 did it? How could this in any way hurt MOTU-DP to do the same? And... What about future development?
If they continue to keep us out of the loop I think that means DP must be written in carbon.
IMO it wouldn't hurt to keep us users happy and connected.
I too only have a Mac because I want to use DP.
If DP was available for both platforms I would keep it on the Mac until more of this kind of crap happens, then when I can't use my stuff anymore I will buy DP for PC. I would then buy new hardware and sell the Mac.
I am way more in love with DP than Mac.
Only time will tell.
BTW, has anyone made a contribution to this wonderful forum lately through Paypal?
IF they ported Final Cut Pro, Digital Performer, DVD Studio Pro,
Soundtrack Pro, Motion 2, Logic to the PC, then I'd
consider a PC.
I have a Windows XP machine at home that I use for a few things
but my preference is OSX.

Based on what Jobs is talking about Motu stands to make even more money. DP will now be PC friendly.
I think the real panic will come when Apple introduces Leopard, the next OS.
Great family and friends!

Wow. What an entertaining thread. First off, I think several folks need to take a couple of vallum (sp?), take a deep breath, and REEELAXXX.
Some observations:
Apple is switching to Intel chips for two main reasons: 1) IBM has been unable to produce a PowerPC chip that can run at 3GHz or faster. Furthermore, IBM can't even produce a 2.7 GHz chip that can run without melting itself.....this is the reason the last PowerMac bump was only to 2.7 GHz and required a Star Wars-inspired liquid cooling system (I thought that was a joke at first!), 2) Cost savings. Intel can produce faster, cooler running chips much cheaper than IBM.
There are some comments here that seem to suggest that just because a Mac will now have an Intel chip instead of a IBM chip means that Macs are going to be no better than your run-of-the-mill Windows PC. First off, it's just a chip! The quality and reliability of an Apple compared to a Windows machine comes from one main concept IMHO - Apple builds both the hardware, and the operating system. They control both pieces and (theoretically) iron out incompatibilities during the development process. Apple also seems interested in making their OS the best and most reliable on the market. This in contrast to Microsoft which just puts out a half-assed overpriced piece of crap they call an OS and license to every Mom-and-Pop in the world who wants to slap some chips together and call it a computer.
If the only thing holding Apple together is the use of the IBM chips, then maybe we should be running IBM servers with Linux instead of Macs!
The stability and reliability of a computer comes from primarily the Operating System. Whether Apple uses Intel, IBM, Motorola, or whoever for chips, they are still going to be developing OSX Leopard, Lion, Bobcat, Tabby Cat, or whatever the hell they want to call it. So, a "Mactel" machine is still going to be a world apart from any Windows machine.
Someone stated this would be the end of Apple and MOTU. All due respect, but come on....I hope that was supposed to be a joke. Apple has switched CPU chips before - in 1994 when they switched from Motorola to IBM PowerPC. I seem to remember some people making similar comments back then. But guess what, the PowerPC-running Apples (along with the return of Steve Jobs) is what put Apple back on the map.
Of course there will be a time period where software companies like MOTU will have to catch up. It happened with the switch from OS9 to OSX. Not much difference here. OSX.0 came out in 2000 as "Cheetah". DP (and a ton of other audio programs) did not run under OSX until 2003 under "Jaguar" I believe - completely skipping over "Puma". Lots of folks are still running OS9 today, a full 5 years after OSX came out.
The difference to take note here is that the OS is (supposedly at least) not changing - it's still OSX, and Jobs claims that they Apple has been secretly running OSX on Intel chips since the beginning of OSX five years ago. OSX was designed from the beginning to be a hardware-independent operating system, unlike OS9 which had specific hardware requirements. OSX is Unix-based, and Unix (and its kissing cousin Linux) operate on a ton of different hardware platforms, so this isn't all smoke and mirrors.
Now, I realize that Jobs (like any other CEO) has a tendancy to gloss things up, but he's not just completely making this stuff up - he did demo Tiger on a 3.9 GHz Intel-based Mac at WWDC.
As for me, I am not without reservation because lots of things can (and will) get hosed up - I still haven't gone to Tiger because my UAD won't work on it yet. But, mass hysteria over a chip change is a bit much.
My dual 1.42 G4 is serving me well so far. My only decision point will be next summer - when my G4 will be 3 years old and I will need to decide whether to snatch up one of the last PowerPC PowerMacs or wait until 07 and check out the "Mactel".
Hell, I'm kind of looking forward to getting my hands on a Dual 4GHz machine someday. 500 simultaneous tracks with 6 plugins running on each one?
