ULTRALITE USERS: TRY ADJUSTING VIDEO CARD ACCELERATION

Post by midihead »

I was looking through my Sonar 6 PE help files for tips on eliminating the "haywire" audio problems and it suggested trying to lower or turn off hardware acceleration on a video card. So far, it 5 or 6 brief tests, turning my acceleration down halfway or lower appears to make the UL "haywire" problems GO AWAY. Setting my acceleration back to full consistently causes the nightmares to return. I'm running a Sweetwater Creation Station with Windows XP and a Radeon X550 video card w/ 512mb of video memory. My UL has firmware 1.10.

While I don't think I should have to turn down the power of my video card to make the UL behave, it certainly appears to have an effect. I'm not sure if Mac users have an option to adjust video card acceleration, but I'd be curious to see if PC and Mac users see the same results I am so far. If your UL is going insane, try turning video acceleration down or off and post your findings here. I haven't yet tried running a full blown project through Sonar 6 with the settings adjusted but I will try this evening and keep you posted...

So far, so good...

Have been testing Sonar 6 PE this evening playing a 40 track project with the video card acceleration turned down a bit. So far, I am having no audio issues whatsoever with my Ultralite using these settings and the WDM drivers in Sonar. Even adding soft synths, which normally caused the UL to go nuts, worked with no problems. I haven't tried recording with the UL yet, but I expect things to work normally using this configuration. If you're having the UL issues I did, try adjusting your acceleration on your video card and see if there's a difference or not. In my case, it seems to have resolved the issues...so far. :)

Nice tip! I wonder why noone else has replied. If my old PC was working, this would probably have been a great solution for the crackling sounds.
