Getting Digital sound into iMac

Hi - I've got an old Tascam Dat tape unit. I want to down-load songs onto my new iMac Core. I bought a coax. cable with two RCA males. No problem with the DAT "digital out" but can I just add a mini plug converter to the other end and plug it into the iMac?

So if you have an optical minijack cable. It will work on the iMac digital in.
Alternative is that the analog signal from Dat is going to Line in.
