MTP I/O shows 9-16 not 1-8

I have a MOTU MTP and a DTP and I am trying to control DP 5.1 from my SSL Axiom Console through Sony 9 Pin. I go out console sony 9 pin to DTP and out DTP to MTP via MIDI and I get no sync. Both have Video and Word Sync run to them and word lock appears on DTP. I get MTP in Audio MIDI to show 9-16 not 1-8 as I only have one and I think this is the problem. How can I get MTP to show MIDI I/O 1-8 instead on 9-16? thanks
