Original 896 - how to set up routing?
I installed my original 896 on a new computer, downloaded the drivers from the MOTU website, and viola...can't use the new CueMix suite. Other than CueMix, the new drivers don't include any routing control, just the basic 'audio setup' panel for selecting basic funtions (meters, peak hold, etc.). Where could I find some software that would have routing control for this unit ???
I'm looking for a workaround
I was hoping to get a few more replies here as it seems there are quite a few of these units out there running into the same sort of difficulty. I am aware that the CueMix doesn't work on the original 896 interface, but clearly the unit is capable of independently assignable routing (via external software, e.g.: any DAW) Channels can be independently sent from any 896 inputs to various busses or sends within a DAW's software and routed to whatever individual 896 outputs.
My intention here is to use the 896 as an 8-ch analog-to-ADAT preamp independently of my main DAW software, as it is no longer my primary interface and most DAW's don't play nicely when trying to use multiple units with different drivers from different manufacturers simultaneously within the same project. (I've long-since switched to an RME as my primary audio interface, specifically because their units typically don't suffer from these kinds of lack-of-forethought utility limitations.) Has anyone come up with a clever way of creating an external software routing path for this unit without going to the extreme of running a full second DAW on a second PC? Or can MOTU retrofit these original 896's to accept CueMix?
