Your post prompted me to check Sweetwater, from where I will someday be taking delivery of an Alpha Track. Things have changed from yesterday's "Expected in February" blurb to...
We have begun receiving AlphaTracks, but not yet enough to fill all of the pre-orders (and new orders that continue to roll in). Please place your preorder as soon as you can so that we can ship your AlphaTrack to you out of our earliest possible shipment!
I hope to see delivery soon, and will report in once I have Alphie in my hands.

I got one. Pretty nice compatibility with DP. I have a Mackie Control and Transport and other things, but I think I like this best. Will test it further.

Thanks Randy. Whoever has the time first, I'd love to hear your more detailed impressions of this piece. It's definitely on my wish list!

It just makes more sense to me than 8 faders and a master fader. I automate everything anyway, one track at a time. I just would like another option besides the mouse.

Why it has taken so long for this thing (or the presonus version) to come around is still a mystery to me. I plan on buying one with my tax return cash.

After some google-ing and a few phone calls I found a place that had them. In fairness to Brad, Sweetwater I believe is out of them. I called Full Compass and they had 15 on order and 9 of those were already spoken for. However they weren't expected till April. FWIW, the Full Compass guy offered me a price (without solicitation I might add) of $176.50. They can't do it on the net because the MAP I guess is $199. Of course again, none in till April, so I said thanks but no thanks.

Any way, a phone call to FloridaMusicCo.com turned up four in stock according to the guy on the phone. He said if the web site does not say they're not in stock, I can assume they're in stock. So I ordered, with a notation on the order that if they're backordered to cancel.

I'm passing this link on to those that wanna find a place that has some:

http://www.floridamusicco.com/proddetai ... atrack.htm

I can't be sure they really do have them now. I spoke to the guy earlier this afternoon when he said they had four units. If you order don't get mad at me if they're sold out. Call 'em first. I don't work or know anybody at this company and all the other usual disclaimers. But this is a hot-selling item and most of the usual places are waiting for them.

By the way... I should open a new topic of this probably, but since I'm not doing lots of dense MIDI, I'm wondering about putting my MTP/AV on the powered hub with my keyboard and mouse, printer, etc. Of course this is against my gut instincts as I've always dedicated one of the rear USB ports exclusively to the MTP/AV. This way I could put the AlphaTrack on it's own and make sure it gets adequate power.

*** EUREKA! ***

I suppose nothing stopping me other than aesthetics from plugging the Alpha Track into the USB connector on the FRONT of my G5 is there? I could put a little cable extender on the alpha track and plug it in the front of the machine and run it neatly to the back and to the Alpha Track. I'm guessing there's power to the front USB connector? On the rare occasion that I plug in a jump drive, I'll have to swap the AlphaTrack.

Opinions?

Right-O Jimbo! You'll be powered and ready to roll from the front USB connection.

I've never seen a digital multimeter with a slide pot before. Cool.
Does it come with test leads and alligator clips?
It really does kinda look like an ohmmeter with a slide pot attached.

But seriously - a wireless one of those would be mighty hip to roam around the studio with- nice size, etc.

The same company DOES make a wireless one, but without the motorized fader. It's got a knob instead. I forget what it's called, but if you can find Alpha Track, you can find the older model, which was wireless. I'm almost drawn to get it instead, because of the wireless aspect of it. Maybe I've got room for both. I wonder which one I'd end up using the most?
