Sigh...
Just took the leap to Kontakt 2...
Hopefully MOTU will offer some sort of financial incentives for previous owners of Mach Five to lure me back.
As for the new Digidesign Sampler? As a former Sample Cell user, thanks for nothing Digidesign.

Please let me know how you go with the learning curve on K2.
I am due to go on the road for what will be a bit of a global sound design/sampling/composition odyssey.... having just tooled up with a MBP I am frustrated with not being able to use M5, which has been such an elegant solution for me so far.....
kind regards
Stephen
I am not to much upset at the cost of more software, more tools are always welcome, but it is my time that is precious......

Yes, this is why I waited and waited...
Mach Five was very intuitive.
I find Native Instrument products excellent... Be not as user friendly as MOTU stuff.
I should get it in the mail in a few days...

I just installed K2- ordered it back in December and put it my sig prematurely. 9 weeks for delivery!! Eeeesh.
Install was fairily basic, but getting it authorized has always been an issue with NI stuff for me. I put in my username and password and it took forever before it would take. Then, after I put in the serial number several times (at a snail's pace for accuracy) it wouldn't take that, either.
I go to the website and log in, no problem-- and I see that K2 was already authorized! ????
So, it's installed and appears to be okay so far. I'm having trouble getting it to find the samples, but I'll have it scan the HDs overnight-- takes longer than I have patience for at the moment.
Still trying to sort out how to get it read my other EW libraries as well-- but this will also require a glance at the online FAQs.
In a nutshell, it's not "quite as" intuitive as MachFive, but I'm really looking forrward to using it.
I picked up Steven Thomas book from CSi. He says, "it's easy to use once you get the hang of it". The book is well written and simple to follow, so I'll take him at his word.
More reports soon...

I did the same thing two weeks ago. You'll like K2. It's my live rig with my MB Pro It's been very stable and I get direct answers from NI.

hmmmm 9 weeks for delivery...seems pretty fantastic compared to MOTU's Mach 5 v2 releaseI just installed K2- ordered it back in December and put it my sig prematurely. 9 weeks for delivery!! Eeeesh.
Monkey - your loyalty to MOTU and M5 is still ever present (as well as your enthusiasm for your avatar/username). The reasoning behind it is not. I do not mean to offend but I'd really like to know why you go to such lengths to promote a company and product which has fallen down on the job so miserably?
I still use M5 but not for long. MOTU's policy of pushing vaporware has gone just way way too far.
Aw, Nick-- don't look at it so much as moving on. Instead, it's expanding for the sake of pressent need. There are some collections that I don't trust to M5's conversion engine, and some libraries just don't support M5 right now at all.The Thelonius Monkey wrote:Traitors!![]()

I fully intend to use both and I still hope for M5v2, but there's a foreseeable Intel acquisition on the horizon. I'm now prepared for any eventuality.

I ordered from B&H should be at my front door soon.
Yea that NI authorization is a biotch!!!
They've simplified it a bit but given no notice on the main registration page that their registration protocol has been changed, so at first its much, much harder. Hope I can remember what the new ritual is when K2 arrives. I remember tearing my hair out a few months back with Absynth...

K2 Setup Guide manual has it all spelled out with pictures. It just didn't work as pristinely as the manual described. While I discovered later that my auth had gone thru, the so-called NI Service Center application just sat there for 10 minutes after I'd prompted it to authorize the serial. Very confusing.dynamix wrote:I ordered from B&H should be at my front door soon.

Correctamundo and exactamundo. It's here to stay.soundeziner wrote:Monkey - your loyalty to MOTU and M5 is still ever present...

Well, I have had a monkey on my back.soundeziner wrote:...(as well as your enthusiasm for your avatar/username).

In case you wondered, that's why I often speak in the third-person and say things like, "monkey tells me..".
It's also an exercise in creative improvisation.
I had no idea what I was doing when I joined the forum, as this was my first.
The monkey name was the first thing that popped into my head when I was prompted upon sign-up; I hadn't considered "on-line names" before, and haven't since.
Given this situation, I've made-do with what I have.
Firstly, you say my "reasoning behind it is not", but I haven't explained myself.soundeziner wrote:The reasoning behind it is not. I do not mean to offend but I'd really like to know why you go to such lengths to promote a company and product which has fallen down on the job so miserably?
Secondly, I'm not sure tongue-in-cheek chanting constitutes "going to such lengths" in "promoting a company and product".
It all started when I decided to help keep the spirits up of some dis-spirited MachV 'Cornies.
If you've read my Machy posts, you'd know I'm simply playing the role of the "positive possibility-pointer-outerer".

Hey, someone's gotta do it, or we'll all bring ourselves down!
My reasoning behind the belief that Mach V II will cream the opposition is simply that I love the way MOTU thinks, programs, and their philosophy.
If you use DP you'll know what I mean.
Elegant, powerful simplicity.
Firstly, it's not their policy.soundeziner wrote:MOTU's policy of pushing vaporware has gone just way way too far.
Secondly, given that it's not their policy, how could they possibly "take it way, way too far"?
soundeziner wrote:I still use M5 but not for long.
Such a shame MOTU hasn't come through for you yet.

I hope you'll re-examine Machy II when she finally appears; methinks she'll be a ripper.
Oh, yeah... sigh... (when in Rome)

I realise the demands on you are great; I've the luxury of playing the fool.
Anyway, I was hoping you'd get a laugh out of the suddenly-appearing Machy-chant and tongue-in-cheek accusation.

Always a wise strategy; the Boy Scouts would be proud.Chucky "Pinko" Floydo, er, Fwodo wrote:I'm now prepared for any eventuality.

Wow! Is that Monkey on your back comprised of 15 nicotine patches and 12 cups of coffee? If you actually read what I wrote AS I wrote it, you will see I did not criticize your avatar/username in any way (unless YOU think being enthusiastic about something is offensive?). You were not being trolled.
Yes, I generalized a bit when I used the word 'policy' MOTU has had many great moments and products over the years. M5 V2 just hasn't been one of them thus far (not an unrealistic or over the top observation). With a user base that is dropping like flies, I don't see much hope for it.
Anyone reading through the Mach5 threads will find an abundance of posts by you which are quite positive about MOTU, Mach 5, and the upcoming V2. I wanted to know why, so I asked. Not even close to an 'interrogation' I don't want to get you all hyper defensive again so I won't post anymore questions your way.
New Rule - Don't ask the Monkey why he is always smiling. He doesn't bite but he does start to fling $#!+ everywhere!!
