Simple enough, just buy 2 quad-core chips ($$$?), some heat sink compound, and away you go. And, now you can turn off that room heater.

This is really intriguing-- and goes well beyond what Sonnet and PowerLogix have been able to offer in the way of PPC upgrades.
I'd be interested to compare costs of operation and liability. The first Intels are only now coming off their basic 1-year warranties, so the DIY thing has its risks for many Intel owners.
But 8-Cores? <drool>

I am still waiting for my predictions re: "8 Core Macs before Spring" to come true. I still have hope, but I guess the D.I.Y. approach is better than nothing for the power hungry. Frodo, hang in there! I continue to have faith you will be able to put 8 "Stock Apple" cores to work for you and your budding VI Farm very soon.
As far as the room heater goes, my Quad PPC is functioning perfectly!

Unlike before, I'm now starting to hear various sorts of buzz and spec about this alleged Spring arrival of the 8-core along with faster quad CPUs. I still can't take the rumors to the bank, but at least the rumors are on the increase.
Someone somewhere knows something about this somehow.
