Hello There!
I have an UltraLite working perfectly with my desktop & laptop, both basic P4 computers. I'm using PCMCIA and PCI by FirewireDirect.com, TI chipset of course - recommended.
Now, I don't mean to offend, but are those faulty computers optimised for audio performance? Firewire & Usb ports sometime share IRQ's with onboard graphic adapters- a dedicated video card is highly recommended.
Also, as the 1394 is essentialy a communications port, some firewalls might intefere with it.
Hope this helps,
Yoav R, Funset Sound System.

re faulty computers
Yo,
I hardly think that my 3 month old 17" Mackbook Pro with 2 gigs of ram and a 7200rpm hard drive (custom designed for interactive audio and video) is faulty. I bought the Ultralite because it was supposed to be FUNCTIONING on the intel chip platform...fortunately it's still under warranty and I can just send the PoS back.
Peace and love , AK
