Ableton - 828mkII
First off, I'm new here so Hello.
Now to the good stuff.
I'm running an 828mkII with ableton live 6... for some reason when I'm using the ASIO driver for the 828 I don't see the spdif out in the output config... nor do I see mic/guitar on the input. Just a bunch of analog inputs/outputs.
If I select MME/DirectX as my driver for the 828 I now see these inputs, but the latency is horrible.
Anyone run into this and know of a solution.
I've reinstalled the drivers a few times and the same problem exists.
Using a Compaq R3000 laptop (p4 1gigmem) and the 828 via firewire. In other apps the inputs/outputs show up fine.
Thanks

I don't ableton, so I can't duplicate your setup. Here's some advice.
1) See if it's related to Ableton. Do you have some other piece of DAW software that you can test with ASIO?
2) Try installing ASIO4ALL. I haven't needed to do this on my system, but other people here have posted that they have cleared up many things by installing it. Basically, it's an ASIO driver that talks to other ASIO device drivers (and other interfaces as well).

Hey there,
If you want use Mic In 1 or 2 on the 828 you have to select Analog Input 9 & 10 accordingly in the input config in Live. It might seem a bit weird but it actually makes sense - if you look at the cuemix console from left to right it goes analog in 1-8, then mic in 1-2, then whatever digital ins you have selected. So mic 1 is actually analog in 9, mic in 2 is analog in 10 and so on.
As for the SPDIF i'm not as sure because i dont use my digital connections at the moment, but a few things. Firstly, make sure that you select ADAT for your optical inputs and outputs in the MOTU control panel. You will now see 2 SPDIF channels in the cuemix on the far right. Going back to Live, if you consider that analog inputs 9 & 10 are mic 1 & 2, i'm guessing that inputs 11 & 12 are the SPDIF connections, as it follows on this way in cuemix.
As for outputs, Live lists 18 here with ADAT selected as the optical out. That makes me think that there is analog 1-8, 2 sends (9 & 10 maybe) plus 11-18 as the digital outs. This is just a guess as i dont really need the digital connections right now.
Unfortunately, Live doesnt seem to let you rename these inputs/outputs so you've just gotta do a bit of trial and error to find out what channel is what from outputs 11-18. A good way to check would be to look at your cuemix panel for any action on the SPDIF channels. Also, dont bother with MME/directX. Use your ASIO drivers for best performance and remember that Live listing the ins/outs this way is an apparanetly normal thing when using an 828 and Live together.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
James
