I'm going to try to archive all the MIDI garbage that
I did with EZVision and MusicShop and record the resulting
tracks with DP5. Anyone know if you can actually import
these ancient files into DP5 or if there's any way to convert
them to work with DP5?
Wish I had a brain and just hit record close to 15 years
ago...
Thanks!

I am a long time EZVision then Vision DSP user and fan - however the only way to convert to DP is if you can open the files and do a MIDI file export. I doubt EZVision opens in OS9 so you need an older machine - my EZVision ran on an old CLassic2 using system 7 (remember that?). I daresay I could convert my old files if I fired up the old Classic but then I converted/exported each time I changed machines. Why didn't you do the same? Musicshop I also had and that was later - probably System 8. I doubt it works on OS9 but you could try.

Thanks - I actually still have an ancient laptop
with MusicShop on it. (Seriously - I completely
forgot that I had the thing. It was buried in the
basement). And surprisingly enough, it has
OS 8 on it. Do you know if EZVision files retain
all the MIDI Program information, etc when it's
imported into MusicShop? Never did that and I'm
wondering if I have to start hitting thrift stores
for another power gulping paper weight.
Thanks again!

Certainly when you export from Vision the files imported to DP appear to have modulation and pitch bend info - although the volume changes/sysex etc don't seem to translate. So there is a bit of fiddling to be done - to be honest I was more worried about the notes (I'm terrible and forget what notes/chords I wrote!). I seem to remember a more seemless transition from EZVision to Vision - I didn't do much in Musicshop but assume it was the same.
In Vision I export either sequences or a whole song as a MIDI file with all info on separate tracks - and this seems to import into DP pretty well albeit with a bit of fiddling with saving a project then loading the imported sequences in - but it works. I think you should try that with Musicshop - let me know how you get on and if you have trouble I'll talk you through the DP bit when I'm at home and can do it step by step. I do it from time to time with my older material.
