...it doesnt crash. But DP 5.11 on my G5 dual 2.0 sort of blacks out the screen and the lights on my 2408 (those three lights that tell you you have the connection) go from steady to blinking on and off. Screen goes completely black and audio playback is suspended.
Then if I move my mouse around a little in a bit, the whole thing comes back,
with the screen coming reluctantly back on and I am back. I have updated MOTU 2408 drivers. In looking at the performance window, I am not overloading the processor. I have switched buffer sizes. I have a 2408 MK3 and an older 1224 that have had their converters upgraded. I have switched off the 1224 to see if it was that one specifically.
Any ideas? thx in advance.
Jud

Jud-- this is pretty serious.
First, check all of your cable connections-- audio, MIDI, monitor, and power supplies-- everything. (Do you have some sort of quality power conditioner?)
One thing comes to mind if audio and video are both going out--- you might have a short circuit on your PCI/ADC motherboard thingy. (How's that for sophisticated tech jargon?) Make sure your PCI/ADC cards are all seated. I had some strangeness with graphics cards on my G4 and G5 which were replaced in less than a year with better cards than Apple was willing to supply for free.
At some point, you may want to remove all third-party devices from printers to FW connections to PCI cards-- everything that didn't ship with your computer. Then run your project using Built-In Audio and see if the problem continues to happen. Of course, if your project is on an external drive you will have to leave it connected.
If it doesn't happen again, then there *may be* something wrong with your third party gear. If it does happen with all the third-party gear disconnected, the problem will likely manifest itself with your monitor as it did before, which brigns us back to the possible short circuit with the ADC/PCI mommaboard thingy again.
But before you draw too many conclusions, call MOTU and either call Apple or visit an Apple Store Genius bar to save yourself the support fee. See if anyone can nail down a possible voltage issue or if they can associate the symptoms with a known behvior-- and effect a solution.

This is probably too simplistic, but could it be a sleep issue? Could it be related to moving the mouse to a hot corner? Just thought I'd cover that base, just in case.

I thought about this myself, Shoosh. It is possible if some sort of sleep timer is glitching.... He did say that moving the mouse brings things back.Shooshie wrote:This is probably too simplistic, but could it be a sleep issue? Could it be related to moving the mouse to a hot corner? I never put my computer to sleep, but does the audio interface blink when the computer sleeps?
I just can't figure out why the screen goes black instead of kicking into a default screen saver.
Soundscore: the Shooshmeister makes an excellent point. What are your screensaver settings?
