xp sp2 -- reboots as soon as i add motu drivers

Post by whod81 »

i've run into this before and i always forget how i fix it. its only with the motu wave driver. If I install the drivers beforehand, it still comes up as an Unknown Device. So I tell it to use the MOTU Wave driver from the list. As soon as it copies the files to the right directory, the box reboots itself.

Any thoughts?

a friend of mine had this problem with an Ultra Light.
He removed the drivers completly.
Then rebooted.
plugged in the MOTU
and then run the install drivers wizzard when windows complained about not having one.

Now it works like a charm.

MOTU audio wave driver problems...

Post by Guitarmuzic »

I am having the same problem with the ultralite. I have loaded the drivers ahead of time, reboot, then plug in the ultralite. When it gets to the audio wave driver it locks up everything and I'm forced to do a power down restart. I haven't yet figured out how to get around this, so as of now I can't use the ultralite at all.

Dr. Fill, you said your friend uninstalled all the drivers, then plugged in the ultralite? Did he have success with plugging in the ultralite without any of the MOTU drivers loaded? I ask because it says a million times in the manual to make sure you install the audio software and drivers BEFORE you plug in the ultralite to the computer....

Any help on this problem would be great. Thanks.

Yes he totally ignored all the install instruction given by MOTU.
Here's the email contact between my friend and MOTU:

Hi Ron,

Thanks a lot for the email.

We have indeed noticed that at some points you must go into Windows device manager and go through the Found New Hardware Wizard to finish up the driver installation. In some cases it may seem that Windows does not fully recognize the drivers automatically.

But in any case, glad to hear that the UltraLite is working smoothly for you now. Please let me know if you have any further questions on this unit in the future.

Hi,

I recently bought a MOTU Ultra Light. (UL00011407)
While trying to install the drivers I encountered a problem.
I followed the manuals instructions exactly.

- (ultralight turned off, not connected to computer ~DELL Latitude D520 Laptop; fully updated (jan 2007) WinXP pro NL~)
- ran setup.exe from XP drivers folder(32bit drivers)
- installed the drivers (choosing continue installation (for all 5 seperate drivers) on "not digitally signed by Microsoft" dialog)
- turned of computer
- connected the (turned on) ultralight
- started up the computer
- The MOTU software was installed
- on starting the audio setup software I get a dialog No MOTU device connected

no succes... (drivers were not recognised)

after repeating the manuals instructions three times (uninstalling - installing) I finally decided to use the windows installation wizard (against the manuals advice)

with succes. (The UltraLight works the a charm)
I'm guessing the latest winXP updates do contain driver support for the MOTU ultralight, and might even cause the original driver setup.exe to fail...

I thought, if not known allready, you might like to know about this issue and its solution and perhaps investigate?

If more specification is needed please let me know..

Hope to have contributed somewhat, thanks for developing the Ultra Lilght!
Kind Regards,

Ron van Wolferen.

I had the same problems when I first installed the 8PRE.

The problem in my case was not with the driver but with XP SP2.
There are a couple of patches available, but I can't recall the KB number.

I passed this on to MOTU and asked them to mention it on their support pages.

I believe this is one of them:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222/en-us, but it's very unlikely to solve your problem.

Maybe you could send an email to MOTU. I send them the KB numbers of the patches, so they should have them ;-) .

I manually edited the registry as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222 , no luck. I ran the patch in that KB, now I am able to install the whole driver and have the MOTU software recognize the 8pre. Too bad it totally locks up the PC 1 minute later, and won't boot without removing the FW card.
