896HD not passing audio to speakers

Post by darrell »

Hi all. This may be operator error, but I don't know.

What works: When I play a software synth in DP, let's say Absynth, the information travels from Macbook via firewire to 896 and then to spkrs, no problem.

What doesn't work: When I use a MIDI track in DP to talk to a hardware synth, in this case Proteus 1, the Proteus sends sound to 896. I have synth patched to Analog 1-2 on the 896. Trim controls are up, and input registers on the LED meters. But no sound comes out...I have tried various inputs, various outputs (both Analog 1-2 and Main Out 1-2), have reloaded the MOTU Universal Audio drivers patch, rebooted, etc. Nothing happens.

Hardware problem is possible, but seems like it should be software, no?
Any advice?

Darrell,

There are a few possible solutions but one flexible solution would be to create a stereo audio track or aux track for the proteus. Make the input be Analog 1-2 and the output be Main and set it up so audio will patch thru. This track would typically be used to just monitor (not record) the synth while tracking MIDI. Then later, you could record the actual audio of the synth into DP using your MIDI track to drive the synth.
