Any Great River Mic Pre users out there??

Here's where to talk about preamps, cables, microphones, monitors, etc.

I don't have one, but I've heard stuff through them a bunch of times. They sound great on rock guitars.

Recently, I was shopping for a good guitar/vocal pre for rock/pop stuff narrowed it down to the MP-2NV and the A-Design Pacifica. Went with the Pacifica, but I could've flipped a coin and been happy either way.

Check out Chamelian Labs while you're at it. Less pricey, but aiming sonically at Neve just the same. Iron included. Comparable?

Yeah, I've read good things about the Chameleon Labs Neve clone, but never got to hear one.

I don't know if the Great River really sounds like a 1073 Neve (because I don't really know what a 1073 really sounds like), but it does have that iron taste to it.

FWIW, one of the reasons I opted for the Pacifica is because it sounds more like an API 512 -- which I have heard before -- but sweeter.

Caveat: We are talking pres here, so we're talking aural subtleties. Gilding the lilly, as it were. My overall opinion is that most pro-level pres can give you good sound.

Still, if subtleties count for you...

Hey Brad - As far as I know, they really only have one design - the ME-1NV single channel and MP-2NV dual channel are exactly the same except for the number of channels, right? That said, I was looking at the single channel guy.

I was looking at Vintage Design also - looks like they have a 1073 and a 1081 repro

Actually Great River used to (and still does on a case by case basis) make pre's that were more like GRACE (clear and clean). Their pres now are based on the NEVE sound with their own twist, they are certainly unique and depending on the choice of microphone you're using and what you're recording---they can be pretty great pres! IMHO the best NEVE clones out there are the Vintech products.

hi all

I have had one for a couple of years and I love it. Indeed great on Gtrs and smooth and transparent for vocals. Also the impedance switch is a hidden gem.

Go 4 it
