828mk2 complete disaster
Hello everybody
Now I recently bought a Motu 828mk2 (3 months ago) because I was fed up with my M-Audio 1814 and needed more ins and outs.Since then it has been a dream to work with it until 3 days ago...
I was working on a project in Live and had just recorded something when the computer froze, making me believe it might be the software or the computer having a problem.turns out it was the 828 that made it actually crash.
Now it is a complete disaster:
sometimes the 828 even doesn't show up.I get all the lights flashing randomly on the inputs part as well as MIDI and sample rate leds flashing.Sometimes the inputs or the outputs don't work.
And it gets better:
Today I got the same problem again so I turned it off and restarted..but it won't launch even. All I get is the upper LCD row showing squares.Nice!!
I tried a factory reset and rinstalling the drivers but it doesn't help.Seems a bit like a hardware problem although I hope not.
Anybody had similar experience please post a message.I'm completely disappointed by this product as I bought it not only for more Ins and Outs but I thought Motu was a reliable company and the 828mk2 a workhorse.
Now it's more like a tired donkey.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers
Marc

Sorry that your having problems, Marcus. It would help everyone here to help you if you could post your computer, OS, and such so we could start to give you a hand.
Hang in there, the Unicorns around here are a pretty helpful bunch.

I have been receiving the same problems too. I've done a little extensive research and I think there is a problem on about %40 of all 828MKIIs.
Mine has the exact same symptoms... I never had a lag problem until I used this device (computer lag). . . and sometimes 828 just freezes up. Only way to resolve is to power flush... and then when it restarts it lights up various LED's on the console

thanks for your help, but what do you mean by power flush?
Just to tell you how the problem is exactly right now:
On power on, LCD works but shows squares, and sometimes now even some of the "MOTU blabla" characters appear.apart from that sometimes turning the knobs makes all the rest of the lights flash up.
My computer still doesn't recognise it and it still doesn't work in standalone.
looking forward to get this thing working again
thanks

Hmm, I wonder if there's something going on with a recent security update or something (I really wouldn't know what all can affect the functionality of these things deep inside the OS); because mine has been solid since I got it over three years ago; but just about a week ago it started behaving badly (output stops working, input LED's light up when no signal is going to them)....

Same problem here!
Hi all,
Just bought my second 828mkII (used) and set it up - worked fine for a few days and then everything went wonky. I came home to see all the LEDs flashing randomly. Cycling the power didn't help. Restarting the Mac didn't help. When the 828 starts up now, it never gets past the "MOTU 828mk II" screen (then the LEDs start going crazy). The reset procedure won't work, as the SETUP button doesn't give any response when pressed. Am I screwed?
Thanks in advance.

Hmm, I sometimes get what are apparently race conditions on startup, but nothing a power cycle on the 828 doesn't take care of. Other than for the lights on the 828 itself flashing, the symptoms are similar, but as I have never seen the upper row of lights flash on my 828, I am going to guess that your problem is different and not correctable by a more meticulous and choreographed power sequence.
I do think it more likely the problem is at the computer end, whether drivers or not. You might also recheck how firmly your cables are all plugged in (including the power cable), and if you are running off of a power regulator of any kind, make sure your power rating is within a reasonable range (I live in a town that has frequent power events, and most computer-oriented equipment does not have the tolerance range of analog gear).
