Quicktime vulnerabilities were item 1 and 3 on the Month of Apple Bugs site. Looks like many more security fixes to come.

Thanks, MLC.

What a PITA, but fortunately I've not had quite the problems some have had. No pixelization or anything. I was apple to view all of Apple's online streaming ads just fine. There are a few other sites where musicians post mp3s which stop at giving me a white screen containing that oh-so-attractive blue Q icon, but no playback controls or audio file.

At present, it seems to be limited to a few sites, but if it turns out to be a wider problem I may just have to do the 10.4.8 combo reinstall after all.

Ugh.

I reinstalled the 4.8 combo yesterday to fix my broken printer links (Epson wide format printers only - but I have 2 of those for orchestral scores, so that was a major concern for me.)

Just for laughs I streamed the Apple commercials and did see the black outline, but o nly while the initial stream was loading. After that, all was fine. Of course, watching commericals is not my idea of a productive day :)

Otherwise the update seems fine. But I really want to get into Leopard. I need a challenge to keep my youthful mindset :)

The issue affects the Intel Core Duo-based versions of Mac mini, MacBook and MacBook Pro computers equipped with wireless, Apple said.

Another vote for PPC!

I've skipped the last two security updates, because the reminders always flash on my screen during the middle of a tracking session (well, I am on average tracking four to five hours a night these days, so I guess that's inevitable...). I never thought security updates were critical on the Mac, and also am not sure if each one includes the previous one or if both need to be installed in order?

There are a few cases of malicious code that these updates claim to protect you against. Still, I have never heard of the OS being attacked. But to answer your question, the updates DO need to be installed in order, except that they sometimes combine the updates and certainly do when the OS is updated.

Even if you don't update, your machine might feel snappier... :)

Thanks for the clarification. I've been terrified of doing ANY updates after losing the ENTIRE Xmas/New Year's holiday week to rebuilding my computer after a combination of bad updates from Korg, NI, Arturia, and G-Force (in that decreasing order of severity) rendered my computer unusable for recording purposes (during what was meant to be a high productivity week).
