4.5 and 4.12 work together

Post by studiodog »

I'm pasting in the text from a post I made earlier in a different thread. I feel that this is potentially helpful and wanted to make sure that everyone that it might help would see it.

======

Why uninstall 4.5 ?

Just install 4.12 right beside it. Both versions will share the same prefs, MIDI setup, etc. All the plugins work in both versions. You can even use the MWorks EQ in 4.12.

This is what I did. MIDI SUCKS in 4.52 so I just loaded up 4.12 on the same drive. Works like a charm.
Just "Save As" your 4.52 files as 4.12, quit DP 4.52, launch 4.12 and all the MIDI crap goes away. All my plugs work and there's no rebooting or anything,

I'm only using 4.52 on audio only sessions.
====================================

It works.

I'm using the most up to date of all my software, I think.
Whatever is on the MOTU site is what I'm using unless they put up something in the last week or so.

Dan.
I'm currently using MidiDriver 1.3 with DP4.52. No problems. I fired 4.12 up also, and again no problems. I've been very fortunate compared to some. The MIDI stick issue has not affected me.
Currently in the piece I'm working on I'm running Sampletank, Kontakt, B4 and Reason 2.5. 6 other MIDI channels for the outboard gear. (3 from Alesis QS8.1, 2 from Trinity, 1 from Roland D-50. )
The system I use

Got the new MIDI driver, loaded up a song that was sticking notes all the time, and looped it for about 45 minutes.

I even added some Waves reverbs to load the processor over 75%.

Not one hung note. Thanks MOTU.

Are you saying MOTU changed the software in 4.52 but did not tell anyone instead of offering a version change????

If that's true, that is a core sin and I won't accept that.

If it's true then I am through with MOTU. Please confirm this.

Sorry I jumped the shark I think...

The new download was USB MIDI related, not 4.52. Is that correct?

A couple of years ago someone, I wont say who, said MOTU changed installs and upgraded them without changing version numbers.

When I heard that I told this person that if I ever found that to be true I would cease using MOTU forever. I still mean that.

If something like that happened, all of us would be just flailing around not knowing what was correct or incorrect and that would be EXTREMELY manipulative.

A simply version number update lets us all know what to expect.

If all of a sudden, new users were using say 4.52 with no problems then how would original downloads ever figure out what was wrong.

Anyway enough said. I hope this was just an oversight comment.

Thanks

Yeah, I've been pretty lucky with that too. I have had some spontaneous sustain pedal issues recording piano recently though. I'm hoping this update will cure that.
