DP crashes EVERY time I open a specific project

Post by ryst »

I have currently mixing a full length for an indie rock band and every time I try to open up one particular song, DP crashes. I tried all kinds of things. I trashed preferences, I removed all plug in folders, I repaired permissions...Nothing is working. I have figured out a way to open the project by having the audio engine disabled. But as soon as I re-assign the outputs to my Firewire 1814 or my MOTU 828, DP crashes again. I have unistalled and re-installed the current drivers for both interfaces and still this particular project crashes every time. If all the other songs open up and this one doesn't, what should i do?

I had problems with DP 4.6 and routing. I had to totally rebuild my audio bundles to get it to work.

If that's your problem, you can forgo it by upgrading to 5.11. It alleviates all of that routing headache. Runs great, in fact. Just know that older third-part MAS plugs may not be compatible (usually not a problem since most also ship with AU).

Thanks for the quick reply, Chris. but unfortunately i am in the middle of this project so upgrading won't help and plus I don't have the funds to right now anyway. Could you tell me how you rebuilt your audio bundles?

You can make a new project and remake all the same assignments in audio bundles. Then either import everything from your old broken project into this one or import these bundles into the old project. Whatever you do, make sure that the bundles from your broken project doesn't transfer/stay to your good project.
Hope this helps...

You didn't change sample rates for that particular song, did you? Like everything else is in 48 and that one is 44? I get a crash once in a while when I go from one to another.

I recently had the same problem and i discovered that it was the Pattern Gate plug-in which, in my case, completely froze DP.

I trashed the MAS audio prefs, open DP and the project, saved the current preset on Pattern Gate, then removed the plug, changed the MAS hardware set up to my 8282mkII.

The project opened without any problems. I then added the Pattern Gate, bounced the track and removed the plug for good.

No more problems with opening the project. Maybe in your case you don't use the Pattern Gate, but maybe you have another "corrupted" plug-in?

Hope this will help.

Thanks guys. I am on 4.61. No sample rate change. No Pattern gate plug in used. And this particualr crash happened during a mixing session while the song was open. Then ever since, it won't open anymore.

Hi Nathan -

Did you try dumping everything in the Fades and Analysis files folders? I've been able to resurrect sessions that way...

You'll need some time while DP laboriously re-computes all the fades.

have you tried making a new project then using' load' to load in the specific chunk that is causing problems. Don't load in the bundles. Similar to dwetmasters reply. You can either load the chunk, or just import the soundbites(drag and drop) and setup a new chunk

Thanks for your help, guys! I deleted all the inputs, outputs, busses, and instruments for the Audio Bundles window and started from scratch. I was able from there to narrow down what the problem was. It was either Mix Saturator (PSP) or Ampeg SVX (IK Multimedia). Everytime I was re-assign my bass track to "analog output 1-2", that's when DP still crashed. I think for some reason i selected "mono to stereo" for the Ampeg plug-in. And in the past DP has crashed when I have tried dragging a clipping preset of the Ampeg plug-in (mono to stereo) on a mono track. Whatever. It's fixed now. I appreciate everyone's help :)
