Strike in DP 5.11

Post by rinky »

I have been unable to use Digi's Strike (v. 1.0.1.2816). DP is fine until I launch this RTAS plug. DP will sometimes quit or will actually load Strike but is non-responsive, then will freeze (beach ball of death). Anyone having this issue or have a solution? Thanks in advance.

I'm running DP 5.11 in DAE mode using Pro Tools HD Accel2, PT 7.3 on Dual 2.7 G5 PPC with 4.5 G ram, OS 10.4.8. I've trashed MOTU prefs, fixed permissions, restarts, etc....
I also have Digi's Velvet and this works fine in DP.
Strike works great when used under Pro Tools, but freaks out under DP!

rinky--

there seem to be problems with running versions beyond 6.9.2-- that's the latest version MOTU shows on their site. Even there, they say are still testing.

Of course, PT is up to 7.3 and Digidesign is claiming compatiblity with their hardware under DAE.

However, another member here using PT and DP says that Aux channels and busses do not work under the new RTAS protocol once PT went to version 7.x.

Here's part of his quote:

Though DP works under the current DAE set up unlike ProTools 7, RTAS plugs STILL ONLY WORK ON AUDI CHANELLS not on Aux /Bus channels so no "sub grouping" or Aux reverb/fx routings are possible EXCEPT with TDM plugins.

Now, given that much info-- it is possible that Strike will have absolutely none of it in DP under DAE.

PTHD hardware running with DP under DAE has been a source of frustration for a lot of users where this combo has been much desired. Many once thought that it had to with the LE versions or "lesser" Digidesign interfaces and cards.

Most recently, I've spoken with an engineer who owns and operates two separate HD|3 systems, but he refused to use them on a Mac for what appear to be reasons akin to the problems you are having. He opted for PC.

But these same issues harken back to my earliest Mac days when my first audio card was Digidesign's Audiomedia III. Running DP under DAE was a complete and total nightmare. Some days there was no way to get any sound out of it at all. Other days it was fine-- then suddenly that feared CRASH.

From research notes from developers, it appears that it should all work just fine, but users are telling a different story.

I would contact Digi for any known issues. If they claim not to be aware of any issues, make sure that you suggest the issue *become* a known issue by virtue of your communications with them-- otherwise insist on have a solution from them.

It's my pleasure, really. Hopefully I've not led you astray, but I've been stuck with this stuff so many times that I can understand the need for immediate help-- or at least the need to just know that someone out there has heard my cry.

I've wanted to use PTHD hardware with DP so much and have had cold feet over it. For me, the cost would be a little easier to justify without all the caveats I've read about over the years. I do love DP and because I do more work in pre-production than post it has not been nearly as urgent an issue.

I do wonder if Nuendo users are having similar issues with PTHD and RTAS...
