Firewire PCI card

Post by Pixie »

Could someone please give me some names of companies that make PCi Firewire cards with Lucent or TI chipsets?
I can't seem to find any, not in the shops here in Belgium nor on Ebay.
The most firewire cards I can find use VIA chipsets (In Belgium it is usually Belkin cards).

Hi.
When I first got my 828mkII the only FW400 card that I could get hold of was a Belkin one.
I asked the assistant (PC World) whether it was a TI chipset - he didn't know.
I looked closely at the board, but could find nothing that said TI or Texas anything.
I bought the board (£ 20 iirc) anyhow, as it was all I could get immediately.
I got it home and installed it, and the device manager informed me that it was indeed a TI chipset.
The Belkin board seems to ba called F5U 503 Rev.S-3
It has 3, six wire ports.
This worked fine with the 828 for a week, but my goal was to avoid the Pci slots on my MB completely (due to other hiccups).
I found a SIIG PCIe FW400 board with a TI chip which you can see here http://www.buyersedge.com/Product/prodD ... pageView=1 .
This has been working about 3 weeks now without a single problem.

Hey there,

I have been using a Delta card with a TI chipset and it has worked well for me. Some other manufacturers to consider with TI chips (or Lucent) are ADS Pyro, SIIG, QPS, RATOC & Adaptec (although i'm not totally sure about Adaptec) . Most should be available on ebay or elsewhere. Try also http://www.firewiredirect.com. I had to actually import mine from Taiwan because i couldnt find any here in Australia. Most generic computer shops stock cheap firewire cards with VIA chips because thats all most people really need. Not us Motu-owners unfortunately though.
