Using Multiple Interfaces with DP?
I just received a new interface today (Presonus FireStudio) and got it installed, configured and working with DP. So far so good.
I was hoping to still be able to use my Line6 Toneport UX2 with DP at the same time for quick and semi-dirty guitar input.
I can't seem to make them both available at the same time with DP....
Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
Is it impossible?
HELP!!!
thanks in advance-Jw

James--
As long as your interface drivers are installed, they should appear in DP's Hardware Settings Window. Shift-Click to select both interfaces (and Built-In, if you want), and you *should* be in business.
I say *should* until such time you report back to say that it's actually working!
You may also want to check your Bundles to configure your desired audio routing for each interface.
Best of luck.

Try increasing your "host buffer multiplyer" from 1 to 2.
Also, what is your audio host buffer setting? You may want to raise it one step at a time until the noise goes away, but with a host multiplyer of 2, a 256 buffer size will result in an aggregate 512. It gets a little tricky with latency, so try to find a nice balance between no clicks and the lowest latency possible.
How much gear do you have connected to your FW ports? On another thread I'd mentioned that the three most common causes for clicks and audio drop outs were:
1. RAM below 2- 2.5 GB
2. Multiple devices on a single bus (ie: FW)
3. Low buffer settings
Play around with these to see what happens. As an experiment, disconnect any FW HDs if a FW interface is connected. The point is to get it to work first, then you may want to consider other HD options should FW HDs interfere with a clean transfer of audio signal. Those FW busses can go into log jam pretty easily.
I've also mentioned elsewhere as an example that I have Duende, which uses a FW connection. If I have just one other FW device connected, Duende or the HDs will not mount. Bandwidth is at a premium.
It's all a tad perschickety, but not impossible to sort out.

I've got nothing else connected on Firewire- the Toneport runs on USB.
Tried various buffer and host multiplier settings, to no avail....
One odd thing I've noticed- When I open the "Configure Hardware Driver" dialog it always defaults to the Toneport under the clock modes popup- even when I previously selected the Firestudio clock. It seems that the preference isn't sticking.
I'm running a Dual G5 with 4GB of ram- and I just have a couple of tracks with no plugins to speak of.
I may try chucking the prefs to see if I can get the clock pref to stick.
I guess it's no big deal if I can't use the Toneport outs- as long as I can get a clean input.... I'll try that next....
Thanks again for the replies- JW

Hey-- glad it's working. Sometimes you need to shut down and restart in OSX because old file references can be stubborn and will default to older settings sometimes.
Also, check Audio-MIDI once in a while to make sure that your clock and interface settings are in place.
Congrats, tho! Cheers to another happy DP user!
One parting thought-- the USB thingy can be tricky with bursts of 480 but not sustained transfer rates at its peak. Keep an eye on that...
