2408mkii pci 324 - what MB are you using? help!
If you have a system that works correctly with a 2408 mkii pci324 card please tell me what mb proccessor your using.
I tried it on a ECS board with a SiS chipset and I got it to work but not without crackling and other odd noises. Motu would jump back and forth from 48 to 44.1 for a split second when I would start playing audio.
Also when I would move a fader in cuemix it would pitch shift the audio slightly. and cuemix was turned off.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

WTP,
I don't run one (got a 424) but I had some posts last year with some recommendations that I bounced over from the Nuendo forum if you search my name with "324". Wasn't but a couple, but it may help.
Have you tried different slots? Even my 424 (original version) craps like that if I put it in certain slots here, and I think it was the same way in it's first host here (an ECS K7S5A/SiS735).
Take Care,
George
PS- I wish to heck these guys would spend a few more minutes prototyping and testing these designs before throwing them out for sale. Could save a lot of people a lot of trouble.

got a couple of ideas. Although i cant tell if it's an AMD problem or what.
I switched MB to an asus a7v8x (via chipset) and I got it working without the the cracklin sound but as I'm playing audio in wmplayer it sometimes shift pitch a little.
It seems okay in nuendo but just doesn't sound quite right like there's a tiny bit of distortion.
It still doesn't work as well as my old setup a mixtreme tdif card to a tmd1000. i thought i was upgrading.
Anyone that uses a 2408mkii and a pci324. PLEASE post your computer rig.
I can't buy a 424 right now. and I need to redo my pc anyway.

GW- Is it all slots though? When I've had that problem with my MOTU, it was "night & day" difference. Everything from weird noise to bluescreens (your pitch shift thing is a new one to me though).
BTW- I'm running an A7N8X-E here, which is one of the ones where the MOTU has that slot preference, however, it's an NForce chipset on that one.
Take Care,
George

WTP....you're in a world of trouble there, but I can give you some info that will help.
My advice is - buy the 424. Installs and works in minutes. Your probelm is the 324. Been in your shoes. I have the same card with the same 2408 MK II.
Let me get home and I'll give you the specs on my old system. I've run the 2408 MKII and the 324 card for a couple of years now on that system. I just bought the 424 card when I upgraded to a new CPU.
It's a real bitch getting that card to work on anything that's not a MAC.
I tried several - like 5 - different motherboards before I found the chipset that would work. But it DOES work...even with hyperthreading enabled, and it SCREAMS! I got my system specs off of posts here a couple of years ago. Most people back then with PC had the same problem.
Give a couple of hours....I'll post the MB info.

GW- Here's that Nuendo thread if it helps any:

There have also been some specific boards mentioned here over the past year IIRC (sorry no links).
Take Care,
George

first of all , george you should be tech suport for motu. you're all over the forum.
thanks dudes for the info. check this....I got it kinda working ok by changing cpu settings in bios. i had to slow down my memory and my cpu. works ok but now I need a faster pc!!!
I ordered a p4 board and cpu off ebay if it doesn't work, no more MOTU!
skull, I'd still like to know your system.
thanks,
GW

Hey, if they bought back my 424 or gave me the equivalent in an RME or something I trusted, I'd shut up for eternity.WTP wrote:first of all , george you should be tech suport for motu. you're all over the forum

Yeah, that BIOS stuff can work wonders. I wish I knew more about some of the less obvious parameters. I've seen people get Lexicon Core2 cards cooperating in problem systems by changing different latency settings and running hacked BIOSes.

Dude....SO sorry. I got sidetracked and forgot to post when I got home!
Here's the deal....
Motherboard: MSI 845E Max
CPU: Intel P4 3.02 with hyperthreading
RAM: 1 Gig 184-pin DDR DIMM
Like I said before, I bought at least 3 or 4 motherboards before I found one that liked the 324, and all the advice came from users on this forum. Seems the problem is with the chipset. This specific Intel 845E chipset was about the only one known at the time that would recognize and use the 324 properly AND allow hyperthreading to take place AND use DDR RAM. MOTU never really endorsed this, as there were so many 324 problems on PC back then. They still officially say the 324 won't work with hyperthreading or on mother boards that support DDR RAM. I just asked them a couple of months ago when i built my newest system.
I'm telling you...the minute I hooked this MSI system up, it just worked....and has for a couple of years now.
For example...right now I'm playing back a song in Sonar with 19 tracks of audio at 24 Bit/48,000 - 20+ instances of gates and compression - EQ active on all channels - 1 Drumagog. Only 23% of CPU being used. No spiking....very smooth. It tends to get near 100% when I get toward a final mix with a few reverbs and delays going - but still a friggin work horse! I very rarely choke it to the point that it stops playback.
Just did a search on EBAY and there is one of those MSI boards on sale. Different processor, but same board: Item number: 230072706654 - starting bid $30.00. Auction closes Jan 6.
Good luck with your config!

Thanks Skull for the specs.
I ordered another p4 board and cpu before i saw your post so I'll give it a try before I get the msi board.
I have got it working somewhat on my amd with an asus board with a via chipset but it's not stable. pc crashes and restarts during different tasks.
maybe from jackin with the bios or the 324.
It doesn't crash in cubase sx so I'll use it till I get the new board.
I remember working in a pro studio that was using the 324 and 2408mkii
on a p4 system with an asus board and it working flawlessly.
I'll post what happens.
