i-DVD problem

Post by David Polich »

For the first time, I'm using i-DVD to create some videos from camcorder footage I shot and then transferred to i-Movie.

I'm getting this error message when trying to burn a DVD -

"multiplexing error - the disc was not written".

This is when trying to burn a double-kayer DVD with about 4.8 GB of content on it.

Anyone experience this sort of thing?

Super Drive on my g5 2.3Ghz Dual Processor (the "older" Dual Processor, not the Dual Core).

I just spoke with Waxman and he recommended I burn a disc image of the i-DVD project first, then burn DVD's from that.

That's what I always do - burn the image first, then make DVD copies from that.

I use the same one on a dual 2.0 ppc. Works fine. Are you using good disks? Bulk disks can cause problems.

Does the SuperDrive in the G5s have limitations on media type? I know the SuperDrive in my G4 can only handle DVD-R, and not DVD+R.

My SuperDrive has no media limitations.

I tried burning a disc image, but that failed too - right at the very end of the audio encoding process, the progress bar was at 99% - then, poof, i-DVD quits.

It may be that the data file sizes are simply too large - one "scene" is almost 45 minutes long and is 6GB uncompressed - perhaps this is just too much data for the cache to try and handle or for the compression process in i-DVD.

Also I am now constantly getting this message whenever I burn ANY dvd in Toast - the dvd burns successfully, but verification fails, with this same message:

"mismatch at byte 221, sector 661240, verification failed".

This is regardless of the content size I am trying to burn to the dvd. It's always the same byte and sector. I should add that the data on the dvd's burned with Toast loads back in just fine, it doesn't seem like the content is corrupted.

Maybe my SuperDrive needs cleaning? Although I don't know how one "cleans" a SuperDrive.

Have you tried burning a CD? Or have you tried a different brand/type of DVD blank media? Also, I am not sure how iDVD handles large files.

Yes. It hates cheap disks or disks with any dust on them! :)
