need MIDI help

Post by abc »

Hello, I have a HP 7855 with Windows XP, AWE 64 internal sound card I used for a MIDI in and MOTU 324 PCI card.
What I'm wanting to do is use my keyboard or drum machine as a controller to record MIDI tracks.
When I connected the MOTU 324 PCI card and rebooted the internal sound card quit functioning along with the MIDI. The game port that I used to plug in my MIDI cord will no longer work. The windows mixer for recording and playback will not function but the MOTU audio program works fine.
I've also looked at the BIOS and didn't recognize any thing that would enable/disable the sound card, and I tried to reinstall the AWE built in sound card and got an error code 10 in the device mgr.
I looked in the windows sounds and audio devices properties and saw MIDI music playback default area (grayed out).Audio playback and recording section was MOTU only.
In my music software it only recognizes only the wave mapper and not the MPU -401 and MIDI out.
The only way I have ever recorded MIDI with external controller is useing the gameport . And being able to see MIDI IN's and Outs in the windows sounds and audio devices device properties and in the recording software)
I'm just not sure what I need for Windows to be able to recognize and record MIDI along audio.
Any help very appreciated!
Thanks,
CMurph

I'm not really sure what you mean by game port. What interface and audio software are you using?

On some Soundcards the game port is used as the MIDI interface, with a suitable cable (D plug to 2 x MIDI plugs, usually).

However, I think CMurph is quite right, we do need to know a great deal more about the actual software being used, both audio AND MIDI before we can even begin to hazard a guess at what the problem might be, apart from the obvious of a conflict between the two cards.
