Hey there,
I have second song ('Zerolizer') up at my myspace site which can be found at http://www.myspace.com/fixederror
Rather than taking forever doing the mix i did this one quickly. Its a bit muddy and indistinct and probably awash with too much verb and but thats the sound i'm going for. Any opinions/criticisms welcome. I always find that because my room is fairly dead that i have to be careful not to overcompensate wih the top end. Does this sound too bright to some of your ears?
Regards
Jim
quick mix - any good?

I'm only listening on my PB speakers (and with a head cold), and it does sound pretty clear, and not overly bright (but my stuffy head may be filtering the highs).
If you're concerned about your room affecting your mixes (Those of us who don't have perfect monitoring spaces should be), try:
1. Standing outside the room and listening.
2. Burn a CD and listen to it in the car and on your boombox and home hi-fi.
3. Don't expect MySpace not to mangle your mix.
I do have a link to MySpace on this forum, but I wasn't specifically asking for mix comments. With MySpace, you upload MP3, and then they recompress it before making it available for listening. I wouldn't let how anything sounds on MySpace be a factor in making subtle mix decisions... unless that's going to be the final destination, and you specifically want to know how your mix sounds on MySpace.

Very true Jim. Myspace does do nasty things to your mix and makes it difficult for judgements. If anything i like to get feedback on the tone of the song and eq settings but it makes it difficult. I try my best to listen to mixes in all different environments and speaker setups but sometimes it just goes straight thru you when you've been listening for hours on end.
I've found my studio to be more on the dead side and i used to always overcompensate by adding (what i later found to be) too much in the highs (i'm sure everyone's been there). I find checking on the cans to be a good remedy for this but there's no substitute for bouncing, having a listen in the car etc. I do like to take a mix out to uni and play it on the PA in the performance hall mind you. Mightn't be the best thing for mix judgements but it's nice to listen to your stuff at ear-splitting levels!
BTW, what are some good music hosting sites other than Myspace that offer a bit more bandwidth? I do like the sociability/networking aspect of Myspace but hate what it does to your tracks!
regards
james

Does your internet accesss offer webpace? Most offer some amount of space suitable for one or two tunes.
