Driver versions

Post by rentadrummer »

I reformatted my drive and I'm in the process of reinstalling all the audio apps and drivers. I have backup copies of everything that I installed previously, but thought I'd check the MOTU site to see if there was anything newer. They only show the latest Universal Audio Driver, 1.07.zip, and one labeled 1.2.5.zip. Was the 1.3.1.zip version replaced by the Univeral Audio version, and if that's the case, is there any improvement for a PPC iMac? I wasn't having any trouble with 1.3.1 and don't need the latest and greatest if it isn't any better. Thanks in advance.

MOTU is notorious for not including any kind of changelog/release notes with their drivers, which is a major pain in the ass. See my other thread on this titled "DRIVER RELEASE NOTES! WAKE UP MOTU!" Hopefully if we pester them collectively, they'll budge.

I read your other thread and that's the kind of info that would have been helpful.

I finally decided just to download the latest version and so far I haven't noticed anything different from 1.3.1, except I think there's a slight change in the appearance of CueMix, but I couldn't say for sure. It's also a much larger file.

I still have the same issue that I've had since I first installed any of the drivers, which is that I have to launch DP with the 828mk2 turned off, and then I can turn it on. If I turn on the 828mk2 first, DP won't launch. It's not a big deal, and as long I remember to do it in that order I don't have any problems. The only time it's a pain is when I already have the 828 turned on, forget to turn it off first, and accidentally try to launch DP.

I encounter a different strange thing.

Sometimes, there's no sound sent to the 828. Even though everything seems ok in DP, including meters.

Changing back and forth clock source in DP solves it each time.
In my case from Adat-optical to Spdif and back again to Adat-optical.
