audio file to MIDI file
I have recently upgraded DP 2.7 all the way up to 5.11 and would like to know what is the fastest(or best) way to change an audio file into a MIDI file. I know I have read it somewhere recently and I can't remember where I have seen it. (SOS??maybe)
Thanks for your time and patience

Re: audio file to MIDI file
Audio to MIDI is tricky. Not sure if DP does it, Finale does. But ONLY in a single line (solo line). The "detectors - when last I checked - could not translate polyphonic music to MIDI.JSMITH8763 wrote:I have recently upgraded DP 2.7 all the way up to 5.11 and would like to know what is the fastest(or best) way to change an audio file into a MIDI file. There are a number of stand alone devices that do this well for single line acoustic instruments, but taking a polyphonic audio file and transcribing it to a MIDI file is not something that can be easily accomplished. There are, however, MIDI guitar processors that do this for polyphonic music played on the guitar. But that is not what you asked...

It can be done by converting the audio pitch (as analysed by PureDSP) to MIDI.
See manual page 850
As MIDI Life Crisis said, it will only work on monophonic material.
All the best

Probably the "Pitch" function and copying and pasting the pitch data with a little clean up will work. Melodyne can do this as well- though whether the Melodyne plug in will do it?
Guitar to MIDI converters, like the Roland, don't really convert polyphonic music to MIDI- they use isolated seperate pole pickups to simultaneouly process 6 different paths of pitch to MIDI conversion, but AFAIK don't convert already mixed polyphonic audio to MIDI.
www.intelliscore.net claims to make products (for a PC) that will convert polyphonic files to seperate MIDI files with a 75% correct rate.

Melodyne. It's amazing.
If the track is monaural and monophonic, DP can do it, too, using the Pitch Correction feature.

I tried to do this a couple of times with DP's pitch detection n it did work. make sure pitch detection is enabled and go to sequence window n select the pitch tap for the track u need to convert to MIDI. copy the data n paste in a MIDI track. As mentioned, this will only work on monophonic files. Ofcoarse u need to tweak (the pitch detection prefrences or the pasted MIDI data) a bit to get it working. I'm using DP 4.61.
