Howdy!
Much to my dismay, the ATI 9600 that came with my G5 just died (computer boots but no video). Naturally, applecare ran out recently (machine was purchased 2003). So, I need to replace the card.
Here's my question: as a stopgap, I've moved the aging (ca. 1998!) video card from my Sawtooth G4 into the G5. It works fine, but I'm curious as to whether I'm going to take a processor hit while running DP with the mixer or scrolling sequence editors open. Will the older card result in higher CPU load under busy-screen circumstances, or do I need a modern card only if I play games etc (which I don't)?
Anybody have any experience/knowledge on this?
Thanks,
