Audio input...

Post by midiw »

What is the best device for audio input I can use with my new iMac:

USB

or

Firewire

?

Any recommendations for which mfg should I buy from? My inputs are extremely simple these days.

Just one audio IN because the extra gear, for example, keyboards, mic, etc. etc I am using my Roland VS1680 ( hard disk recorder ) as an mixing board.

Follow up question please:

I was looking at http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/A ... -main.html
because I've had good results with M-Audio products plus there prices are reasonable.

I've got a M-Audio usb for MIDI input and a PCI card for both MIDI and audio in/out in my G4.

The MIDI connections on the Audiophile USB and setup in AudioMIDISetup I am familiar with.

However this is my first venture into having to work with usb input for audio for my iMac.

Looking at the USB Audiophile I think that analog audio from ut using a usb audio device. my mixing board goes to analog audio in of the Audiophile. Now this is were I get a bit unsure: does the audio out of the Audiophile goes to a pair ( L/R ) monitors?

The best interface is of course the one I use, no just kidding. Are you looking for the best or a cost effective one. I use a pci card but you can get good results with ether usb2 or fire wire. It all depends upon what you need.

Thanks for your response.

A pciX card can't be installed in a iMac.

After I finally got my head wrapped around the audio in/out I will not be purchasing the usb audiophile.

I will be using the optical in/outs from my Roland VS1680 hard disk recorder. I've never used that feature before because I never had any device that would accept optical audio. I also use my VS1680 as a mixing board.
