Any tips for recording Yang Chins?

Anyone had to record these before? I was thinking a good 'ol stereo pair of pencil condensers in XY or AB pattern but wanted to get people's opinions for mics and positioning. Was going going to approach it perhaps like a vibraphone or some other melodic, percussive instruments. Any ideas?

That sounds like a great plan for that instrument. I have recorded that before. I believe we used a single large condenser - a u87 and it sounded wonderful as well. The instrument has lots of high end detail so a 414 TLII would be a good possibilty as well as the AT4060s.

Thanks for the reply. The condensor sounds like a good idea. We do have an AKG C12 at our disposal and i'm sure that would sound great. Then again, that beast ALWAYS sounds great. I must say that the yang chin is a beautiful instrument to listen to. Will let you know how it goes!
