I'm not sure they'll sound better (???????) than UAD stuff...
Looking forward to your impressions.
For the record, I don't think anyone has made a claim of ..."sounding better than"... I have used terms such as "similar" or "comparable to"...

I have a UAD-1 (StudioPak) so I can make a direct comparison.

You can also checkout the plug-in comparison I posted awhile ago. These will be available until I post new examples after the new year.

Not everyone has a computer with PCI slots of any type or a budget to also purchase a Magma chassis (in addition to a DSP card. No argument here about the sonic quality). There is a need for quality native solutions. Even the Sony Oxford stuff is going AU. Firewire options are also appreciated.

Now, about that smoked salmon... :D

I didn't mean to say anyone said anything about "better" or "worst".
I was just thinking out loud since I already have a few UAD plugs... and I don't want to spend more $$$ on plugs that won't help me a lot...

jeronimo,
Everything's cool.

I do have to watch my enthusiasm for these plugs as I may sound like a salesman or whatever, which I am not.

And hey, you're using UAD so you're all set.

As long as my old beater G4 can run DP and required Mac OS, then I'll also continue to have UAD available to me.

But native and firewire solutions seem to be the most accessible options in my future.

Cheers.

I hear ya!!!

Same thing here: I have a dual 533 and I'm planning to upgrade it to dual 1.8 just like what you're using now and everything will be great with my actual hardware choice (Digi 001, UAD, RME, etc...)
I have a MacBook, so I'm really looking foward to a Firewire UAD...

Just a couple of things:
MOTU supports Sonnet cpu upgrades.
But GigaDesign is a very reliable product with great tech support. The dual 1.8GHz cpu upgrade produced a significant power boost when using audio plug-ins but not with VI. It's not a limitation as I freeze or bounce to disk MIDI/VI tracks as I go along.

I noticed that I had kernel panics about once a month when I was leaving the computer on 24/7. The panics seem to have stopped. Another good reason to "Save" constantly.

It would be a dream come true if UAD produced a firewire unit. You'll need a Magma chassis with your MacBook: http://www.mobl.com/expansion/products/ ... index.html

I don't use VI's at all!!!!
Just need power to spare on plug-ins.... but wait....
Since my outboard collection started growing faster, I ended up using way less plug-ins... but power is always good.
Thanks!!
Hey, as far as I know, Magma doesn't make firewire to PCI chassis! So, no go for MacBooks!
Take care!
