Intel Mac using BootCamp to run XP. Cuemix error message....

Post by RRabbi »

I recently bought a MacBook Pro, and installed the Intel Mac drivers on the OS X side. Motu 828 MkII worked fine, and Cuemix loads properly.

However, when I installed the Motu drivers in Windows XP (used BootCamp to get to XP) I receive this error message when I try to load Cuemix:

"The device is on a bus that cannot support this transfer rate"

This seems odd to me since the firewire bus worked on the Mac side. Is this an issue with the XP drivers for the Motu? do they need to be special Intel Mac drivers (that can be installed in XP?) ... Or maybe could it be an issue with the Firewire 400 port drivers in XP?

I was planning on using Logic Pro 7 in OS X, and Sonar on XP, but now it doesn't look like my gear is going to work on XP using Bootcamp.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions

Hi. I'm a relative newbie so hesitate to offer advice but...

Are you running XP SP2? If so, there is a known issue with FireWire speed and SP2. There's a full article about this, and how to resolve it in this MS Knowledgebase Base article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222

I had the exact same problem last night on my macbook pro with bootcamped WinXP and my 828mk2 firewire.

I has the troublsome SP2 firewire problem which produced the "The device is on a bus that cannot support this transfer rate" problem. When I installed the microsoft quick fix mentioned in the post above, I got rid of this problem but now I have another problem.

Live and the Motu Console now see my 828mk2 but when I try to play audio through the asio driver, I get intermittent cut-outs that produce a high pitched sound. This happens about every second or so. If I change the buffer size, the frequency of these cuts changes. On the front pannel of the unit. There are spikes in the SPDIF vu meters, which I am not using...

The unit works perfectly on my other windowsXP machines. It also works perfectly on the same macbook pro running OSX.

I've tried reinitializing the unit to the factory defaults, which solved a similar problem I had a long time ago, with high-pitched squeels followed by garbled audio... But this is a noticibly different problem. The reinitializing does not help. In this case the audio is clean, except for the highpitched cuts...

I've reinstalled the drivers a hundred times. I've used the universal USB/Firewire ones, as well as the older firewire ones. Is there anything special you have to do when unistalling drivers in order to reinstall them? I tried looking for anything motu on my drive and deleting it, but I am still stumped...

Please help!

Thanks a million.

I noticed the same thing when I installed the SP2 fix. Exact same thing as you had described. I think it's a driver issue that probably won't be resolved right away (i.e. using XP stuff with BootCamp).

Needless to say, i'm returning my Macbook Pro and I'm getting a tweaked out Dell Inspiron 9400 notebook.

FWIW.... Good Luck... ;)

There's a known fix for this error that was published by MS. You can find the update here http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/winxp-1394.html

Apply the patch, reboot, plug the traveler and you won't have the error message again in Cuemix.

The high pitch noise is a Macintel problem I think. Not XP per se, either Apple or Motu will have to fix it.
