I did notice a huge increase in fatigue when I made the transition from using tape to DAWs many years ago. Now there is no need for a pause every time you need to rewind, so the actual listening time has increased, and it is very easy to get into looping continuously......

Yes, take lots of breaks, and listen from different positions, like the next room or a corridor, to get some kind of perspective. I find listening in this way gives some valuable clues about what is working (or not) in the balance.

Sometimes when I am riding and levelling a vocal I turn the monitors down so they are barely audible. I also occasionally start my balances monitoring in mono before switching out to stereo. When my ears are tired I find it easy to misjudge transient components in the signal and get the balance out of whack.

In these days of complete recall it is less crucial to get it all right at once. But if time is of the essence, it always helps to leave a mix overnight and check with fresh ears the next day before committing.

Good luck!!

Guys & Gals...

I grabbed a pair of the Event P8's. I gotta say they ARE less fatiguing than the HR824's.... BUT...

They dont go as loud, which MAKES you listen softer. The low end is waaaaay different (in My mixing room, which I KNOW is the real culprit)

LOVED the mid/hi's. Been mixing at 87db for quite a few hours on them and even after tweaking at 4AM, the mixes still translated nicely.

Thanks for all your info... HAs anyone tried the events with a sub? (Oh no.... Not this debate again...)

I was actually considering using the blue sky sub...

thoughts????

I don't know about the blue sky sub.

I just get a Yamaha SW10.
In my small studio, it works fine with my A1 Studer monitors.

I tried the Studer in my place before purchase, but jumped straight for the Yamaha sub. Happy with it.
