I'm sorry, I forgot not everybody can read minds. Doh!!!
This problem only affects Logic 7.2 users. Whenever a Logic user adds a new Audio Units plug-in, the AU Validation tool (Audio Units Validation Tool), goes through it's paces checking to make sure all the AU Plug-ins are valid. If one doesn't pass validation, you have the option of checking the box next to it anyways and using the plug-in with a warning that it might crash you system and you could lose valuable data, or unchecking the box and not using the plug-in at all.
Apparently, this is a "known issue" to MOTU, which they state on their website in Tech Support, that they are "working on it", but I haven't heard any more about it. Just wondering if anyone else here had a clue? That's all! Thanks!

There was something going on with DP 4.x, but I've been searching for info with this on their site regarding DP 5.1 with no luck so far.
I did have one issue where a failed AU would shut down DP 5.1 entirely, but removing all third-party AUs and trashing the Audio Unit Info Cache fixed the problem.
I then reinstalled one AU at a time, trashing the AU Info Cache file to start a new AU test until I found the culprit.
As it turned out, that particular version of the AU had to be updated to either a later build for PPC or to UB, depending on the plugin.
The solution was easy to find, but I do wish that DPs AU validation wouldn't totally shut down the app.
In one case, I had to start Logic to get the AU validated. That was what totally ironed out the problem. After that, everything passed with flying colors in DP.
Note: any of MOTUs VIs which run in both MAS and AU will be automatically skipped during the AU exam-- and the MAS version will always be used when booting DP. I thought this was a problem, but I learned this is natural-- even if MOTU didn't explain it clearly.
Thank goodness for workarounds.
To answer your question more directly, DP is still on 5.1. Since we've yet to see 5.12 or later, I would say that the problem is not solved. But the workarounds have made a patch for this issue *a little* less urgent than they once were.
