MacBook HDD Upgrade

Post by gregwhartley »

Hello all! I'm looking to upgrade my MacBook hard drive from its existing 5400 rpm SATA 60 GB to a 7200 rpm SATA 100+ GB hard drive. From what I've seen the only options available are Hitachi and Seagate. I'm curious to find out if anybody out there has upgraded their HDD and if so which way they went with the upgrade and how did it turn out. I'm looking at buying off Newegg but they didn't have any 100 GB or higher in stock last time I checked (I'd actualy prefer a 120 GB). Ideas/Opinions?

-Greg

P.S. - Please don't recommend an external HDD, I've already got one but just need to increase portability.

I sliped in my MacBook a Seagate 100Go 7200rpm.
Realy a few minutes to get thru.
(Just get very picky when you replace the "L" metalic piece, cause of the two glued on isolations parts trying to prevent geting it in exact place).

On my old Titanium I had droped a Hitachi 60Go 7200rpm with much succes. A noticeable difference between Hitachi and Seagate is silence.
No noise AT ALL with Seagate. It comes with a longer waranty, 5 years, if I remember well.

Works fine, but DP 5.1 crashs are still creeping around, but that's another question.
I believe now it's a DP update question. We will see later, when it's out.

Thanks for the info Daniel! I was kind of leaning towards the Seagate already, so it's good to hear of your experience with both to confirm that direction as a good one. Seagate it is!
