blksqrl187,
Guessing the MS FW fix just "patches" a fix into the SP2 drivers, you may be better to try that full replacement which people do here, with the actual SP1 bundle (and check versions in the device manager to be sure).
Sorry if you've already tried that, and good luck on it,
George
PS- I'm actually AFW (afraid of FireWire)
. I run a 424 here. MOTU-PC is a crapshoot in and of itself, even without the "FW factor".

i'm gonna give it a shot. I got an old sp1 reinstall disc from my old laptop kickin around. might as well try since there doesnt seem to be any other resolution available.
Can anyone confirm that this is a software or hardware issue? It seems only to happen a few reboots after a reinstallation and its driving me up the wall. We'll see if sp1 works.

I just got an 896 and noticed I was having cut out problems also. Very intermittent, just a quick tenth of a second cut out on playback. What I discovered as my problem was the firewire cable. I was using a firewire cable that I had from an external HD. I swapped it out with the cable from MOTU- no longer a problem. Not saying this is your problem, but certainly a variable to eliminate before blaming the unit.

after a day or two with SP1 installed, the unit began to pop/hiss and glitch playback of mp3's as well as all my host programs. again. So I went back to sp2...
it's working now, but i expect it will stop working again after a reset or two. anybody found a solution yet? my next test will be swapping out the cable. and then maybe just trying another firewire card.
i'm getting really sick of this kind of downtime. we need a solution...

Cuemix not in sync...
I have the same problem as well. Still haven't found a cure yet. Any help other than "throw it away and replace it with an RME"?

I was having intermitent audio cutout on an 896 with playback thru both DP and itunes. I put a new firewire card in, new cable, watched for disc write/read or cpu hogging- nothing. Usually the clock lights on the 896 stayed on, but once in awhile they would flash also. So I changed the clock source in MOTU audio setup from internal (the 896) to the computers clock. Took care of the problem. Seems the clock chip in the 896 is buggy. I called MOTU tech support and did get a RMA for it. So, question for all you audio cutouts and "can't synq cuemix" guys- if you change the clock source from internal (the motu unit) to another clock generator, does that resolve your problem?
Chris
No, changing the clock didn't help. I used external ADAT as the clock source but the problem still there.
I finally did a Windows SP1 reinstallation. It fix the problem. Wow!!! Now I have to do all the installation of everything I had on the computer. And one more thing - dealing with security issues of SP1. What a hassle? At least it fixed the problem.
