828 Crash

Post by Housealien »

OK

So I have a couple of MACS and they all ended up crashing(little evil file shows upon start & that's it!!!) I now have a G5 and have made tracks without any problem for the past 3 months. All of a sudden , DP4 was in the middle of a track and the audio would stutter until it finally crashed. When I say crashed, I mean that I am NOT able to see the 828 in the "firewire console" or in "audio MIDI setup". I figured all I had to do was either reboot the comp. or re-install DP4. It worked for an hour until it crashed again!!! I finally noticed in the 828 "analog activity" monitor that the orange parts were blinking every 5 seconds causing an an annoying static noise to come out of my speakers. iTunes also is being affected by this so it is defintely my 828 of 3-4 years which I has never left my smoke free studio. NOW!!! I have a gig this Saturday and am being forced to dish out $800 to get a new one. I have been reading some funny things about the "828 Traveller" and it does not seem to be very reliable either.

Has anyone else experienced any similar problems ? It sucks that a piece of mint condition audio hardware can ruin 3 computers and I have to dish out $2,000 to get things running again.

:( :(

O.K. I read you E-Mail and I too have a Lacie firewire. Do you think that could be the problem. Nevertheless, I went out and bought the 828 MKII and sold the 828. Do you think that I could have a problem with the new one too? Should I not have the Lacie and the 828 turned on together? Why would all of my MACS crash? I think the firewire has a lot to do with it. hhmmmmm.....

I think, in my case the old 828 (One of the first) isn't compatible with TIGER.
i bought an 2408 mk3 and that's abig difference.

It has normally nothing to do with LaCie.
