Does everyone have BTD problems? I have just finished a 16 song CD and did all 16 plus mastering sessions with BTD and never had a problem. Do others not have problems?
Peace!

I guess. I never had a problem until recently on my desktop with 5.1.

I tried it for the first time the other night and had issues like everyone else.

Bouncing 2 track mixes there would be 2-5 second holes.

The problem you describe is definitely real. I've been able to minimize the dropouts in BTD by disabling the inputs and routing the outputs through a bus. Works for all formats.

Prayer, finger-crossing and wishful thinking have also helped. I have not attempted animal sacrifices yet, but hopefully it won't have to come to that...

You should send an email to MOTU tech support as well. Maybe if enough people notify them of this problem they'll fix it in the next update.

Don't know if this wil help, Gary, but I found when I bumped up to DP 5.1, I had to clear out and rebuild all audio bundles from scratch. I was having all sorts of internal bussing problems. Since I've done that, however, things have been cool mostly.

One odd exception: I have, on occasion, found that some of my older VIs would clutch when laying down audio at buffers 256 or lower. Sometimes this amounted in instant crashola. So, for right now, I just bump the buffer up to 512 or higher to make sure all my VIs burn to track correctly.

Hope this helps some. Or at least gives you some things to think about. As always, YMMV.

Oh, and I always bounce out SDII with DP. All other format conversion I do through Peak.

Animal Sacrifices haha

Yea Chris, your on to something there because they took out the manual track setup assignments and went to this automatic scheme.

Well, they blew it big time obviously. Should have left that one well enough alone, maybe even for another life as it was a non issue having virtually nothing to do with work flow. It was a set and forget, "and now it all this", (John Lennon)

These guys are on another planet in Boston.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a go.

BTW, I have to increase buffers to three x 1024 to get one tune to play properly. I guess VI's are still an issue too.

Cheers,

Chrispick - you are def. onto something. Today I had some random dropouts in my bounces, despite the usual workarounds (disabled inputs, animal sacrifice, etc..). So I completely deleted and rebuilt the audio bundles, as you suggest. All of the sudden the bounces are flawless...

Thanks for the input.

What sorts of problems are you guys having when you bounce? Since I've upgraded to 5.1, I have problems with bounces too. It's not entire spots, which is weird -- I'll be missing part of a vocal track, but there will still be music underneath it.

Also, I didn't just upgrade from 4.12 to 5.1, I completely reformatted my hard drive and installed the newer version OSX. Has anyone else noticed that 5 runs slower than 4?

DP 5.1 and bounce-to-disk (BTD) Problems!!! Any Solution?

Post by rsherm »

I recently updated from DP 4.6 to 5.1. I have been doing hundreds and hundreds of bounce-to-disk mixes over the past many years, and NEVER had a problem until 5.1. Now, I am having the same problem that others have reported, which is, various audio elements within the 2 channel bounce drop out for a few seconds, and then come back in. I may sound too self-assured here, but I am POSITIVE this is NOT user-error. I can perform the exact same bounce in 4.6 with no problem. To clarify, these are audio tracks that I am bouncing to a stereo mix, and there are no virtual instruments. I know how to set my selection start and end region, and I know how to select the tracks, and I am checking the output assignments, and I have the correct tracks enabled, and this problem is NOT due to automated volume changes. Am I way off base here in thinking that this problem is a MAJOR BUG with DP 5.1? I am so disappointed, because the new editing tools and other new features of DP 5.1 are excellent, but I am so accustomed to doing a bounce TD to make my final mixes. I do not want to accept the option of simply creating a mix in real time. There seem to be numerous threads on this site regarding the problem. If anyone could give me an overview of how prevalent this probnlem is, and could summarize the suggested fixes for this problem, I would REALLY appreciate it. Also, has anyone received an educated response from MOTU regarding this problem? Until a solution is found for this problem, I feel inclined to work on all DP projects in 4.6, where I KNOW I do not have to worry about my bounce-to-disk mixes. In advance, I thank anyone who can shed some light on this bug.

That's the exact same problem I'm having. I'm also curious for answers, as we're about to upgrade all of our machines to DP5.

They're going to issue a patch for this soon, right? This is a pretty big problem.

I'm very concerned about this problem, as I've been more and more suspecting that Core Audio is at the heart of the bugs, which could mean that MOTU is powerless to fix it. I don't have any proof for my suspicions, just a continual series of audio anomalies when NOT using DP. Symptoms include audio channels cutting in or out, audio being diverted to an inactive interface for a few seconds (such as Soundsticks or internal audio) with no intervention on my part, or audio mute turning off (unmuting) unexpectedly while watching DVD video without audio, and more.

If this sort of thing is going on in OSX in general, what hope do we have for our audio in DP? It's the same kind of behavior.

Further, I've been seeing problems with video (monitor brightness) settings in the latest release of OS X. There are some strange things happening.

that could be mildly embarrassing, depending on what you're watching with the volume off...

i'm using 10.4.7 / 5.0, and it's a pretty stable combination. i've never had BTD problems. the other day i caught myself halfway thru downloading the 10.4.8 and 5.1 updates, thinking 'i don't really have any problems, why am i updating again?' i immediately canceled the downloads. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
