What About?

Post by alfreds113 »

Do we really need to select all the tracks in the sequence window so that they can be included in the final bounce to disk format. Is there another way we can bounce to disk without having to do it real-time or selecting every track? I use to do it in Nuendo where I just typed in where the song started and where it ended. Everything that was not muted was included.

Yes, you MUST select the tracks you want to bounce. I prefer this since I can selectively bounce specific items. Besides, is it so difficult to hit the CMD-A key combo? Or simply slde the mouse down the track names? Besides, if you didn;t have to select all, you would NOT be able to bounce specific tracks. That would be very bad, IMO. Always bouncing evverything would suck the big one.

Yes you have to select the all the tracks you want included in the bounce. Don't go by what you could do in Nuendo. DP isn't Nuendo, Logic, Pro Tools, or Sonar.

If you have a MOTU audio interface like a Traveller, Ultra-Lite, 896, 2408 Mk II or 828 Mk II, you should use the real-time mix record "feature" which isn't in the manual. PCM, a contributor to this forum, figured it out. I will re-iterate:

1. Open up the CueMix console.
2. Go to the "File" menu, you'll see an option labeled "Mix 1-2 includes Computer output". Select it so that there's a check mark next to it.
3. Close the CueMix console.
4. Open DP and open your project.
5. Create a new input audio bundle called "_______Mix 1-2". If you have an 828 MK II, for example, you'll see an option called "MOTU 828MKII Mix 1-2".
6. Now in your project, create a new stereo audio track, and set its input to be Mix 1-2.
7. Make sure its playback button is not on.
8. Record-enable the track, then start recording your mix to this track, in real-time.
9. When you're through with the tune's playback. hit stop. You now have a real-time "bounce" of your whole tune. You can export this file from your soundbites window to wherever you want - a new DP chunk or file (for mastering in DP) or to a folder where your you keep your audio files for an external audio program like Peak.

The beauty of this is you don't have to freeze any tracks, unless you need to do so because of your computer's limitations (if you have an older G4, for instance).

I guarantee you once you use this method you will never do a BTD of your tune again.

If you use an older MOTU audio interface, such as the original 896, 828, or the PCI-424 card with the 1296 or 2408 mkII, then this is not possible. The menu item just doesn't exist. There are also many other differences in the legacy CueMix capabilities, but I have not been able to pin them all down, not having a new box to compare to.

Just thought I'd mention that, since a lot of us are still mired back in time before DP for OSX, meaning that we bought our interfaces boxes before mid-2003. I've often gotten my hopes up for a certain feature only to realize that it's not available for us legacy users.

Here is my suggestion to MOTU for BTD.

Feature Request

Add feature that when selectd renders all of the MIDI and VI's into
separate audio folder called "Rendured Audio" and NOT into the project.

This way we can have BTD and CPU issues solved and not mess up the project playground with rendured messiness.

Also create a menu option to have rendures play in real time.
instead of actual until modified. Changes will involk re rendure of a track.

The mess in the mixer is just too much, folders or not.

Also include delete all rendures in the bounce menu.

This feature would rock our world.

Thanks
