Can't get Mackie Control Extender to work correctly
Hello,
So I am putting DP5.1 through it's paces. So far so good, except, I cannot get the Mackie Control Extender to work properly.
I have both my MCU and MCU extender set up correctly in Audio MIDI setup and all assignments are correct in DP5.1.
When I try to use both controller, they mirror each other and are "herky jerky" / not smooth.
With the MCU only, there are no problems.
Also, my Unitor 8mkII does not show up in the list of MIDI devices when I try to assign a MIDI output.
Any ideas? Any help appreciated.
Rich

Hi Rich, do you have the MCU & XT daisy chained? This would cause problems. DP needs to treat them as 2 different MIDI controllers. Do you have the latest Mackie driver? Have you set the MCU to the correct mode (Mackie protocol I think)? The DP 5 manual has a chapter devoted to the MCU's set-up. Have you followed this to the last detail?

When you say Mackie Control "driver" what do you mean, the MCU version (which is 2.1) or a specific driver that DP 5.1 needs?
The problem I am encountering:
When I set up each controller (ad each device in AudioMidi setup and connect each to my Unitor8) the controllers are sharing / mirroring each other.
Both units show the same track info and the faders / pots follow the other unit.
Pretty weird.
I know it's not my Unitor 8mkII not working correctly as all my other apps see and work with my controllers and this interface.
Regards,
Rich
My setup:
Dual g5 2.0 (PCI last revision) 4 gig ram
Unitor 8 mkII MIDI interface
MCU and MCU Xtender
RME Fireface 800
Line 6 PodXt

Look here:
http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technot ... %20control
And,
When you first launch DP the LCD screen on your MCU (main) will briefly flash the driver version, mine displays:
"Mackie Control Driver version 1.3 © 2006"
Try here,
http://www.motu.com/download/download_m ... duct_id=16
This is not the same as the ROM, mine is also ver. 2.1.0

I'm about to give up. When I set up the MCU & Extender, both units show / mirror the same information.
I have tried different ports on my Unitor, I have tried putting one unit on my Fireface and one unit on the unitor, still not working.
Something is causing the units to mirror information, I just can't figure it out (pretty new to DP). Plus, when I use the MCU only, the scrub wheel doesn't work.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Rich

At least with DP4.6 there setup needs to be made both in audio MIDI setup, AND the controller setup in DP.
Things that could be tried (though it is not clear if any of these will solve your problem)
To be safe, try having each on it's own seperate "cable" (set of 16 midichannels) to the unitor.
Then play with the controller setup in DP- what happens if you add the XT as a whole individual different controller to the setup rather than an extension to the MCU? (It might require calling it/ using a MCU driver rather than a XT driver- just assign the x's MIDI routingt to this seperate Mackie control setup). The distinction in setting this up is whether one adds (starting from just having one Mackie Control Unit configured) by using the "+" sign from above the Mackid Contol unit in the window, or next to the Mackie control (which should be the way to add an extension unit to a controller).
If you have any other programs that can talk with the MCU and XT (maybe even a soft synth?) if the combinationworks properly with them that would indicate the problem is not with audio/MIDI setup- but with the controller configuration in DP.
And of course each unit has been started up into the Mackie control mode?
You could try putting them in HUI mode and configure the controllers appropriately in DP to see what that does as another trouble shooting step(maybe they will even work that way- but as two seperate controllers- just one has transport edit controls and the other doesn't. In this mode the two units would initially appear as "mirroring" each other, but you should be able to bank or channel shift each one indiividually- the problem is they won't bank/channel shift together)
Good luck.

Thanks spirit,
I have done all the suggestions you wrote and them some.
The controller setup seems pretty simple, without a lot of options.
I even tried using the Mackies as HUIs. Still the same mirroring problem.
I now believe it is something with DP.
As a bonus, I discovered my UAD-1 plugins won't show the edit windows. Just gets better and better.

I'm a total lame loser!
If I read the manual correctly, I would have never had the original problem.
Seems I kept setting up a second Mackie driver instead of adding the XT to the original Mackie driver.
For the record, the HUI needs seperate drivers, not the MCU.
Now if I can figure out OMF import!

Rich
