I've just mailed to Motu, waiting and hoping, what else ?

My system is kept clean, defragged, hardware-tested, audio only partition, dedicated FireWire audio drive.

I get random inexpectedly quit with DP5.1 on my 1.83 macBook
Sometimes after 2 min, sometimes 30 min
Even with DP project launched but no action at all : it just vanishes
Even with built-in audio
Only few DP stock plugins used, no third party plug-ins on the system
Even with buffer 1024, multiplier 2, priority mid (or low), pe-fill buffer off
Only 7 stereo audio tracks, of 5 minutes only
Even if the project is loaded from within a new created project whit load command
OSX does not need a reboot after crash, just re-launch the projet and I can work again for an unknown time

I'm a bit confused, DP 4.6 used to be so stable on my old Titanium667
By now, my new system is completely unusable for real-world work
I use Apple-S command after every action...
I loose so much time and focus

I'm beginning to wonder if the fact I run OnYx and TechTool4 on a regular basis I have been void of such crashing on my non-Intel gear. I do have an occasional quit usually related to buffer settings.

Also do the settings prescribed by motu and re-loaded all old sessions.
Could be the same results as the SuperDuper backup.

I also forgot to mention that when the mac wakes from sleep mode, no audio comes out of the interface even though it states it is loaded. I have to actually unplug the firewire cable for my 828 to get the mac (driver?) to re-recognise the interface.

sometimes that "no sound" happens also here.

I tried to figure how that was possible, cause everything looks right in track and bundle windows

My actual workaround is :
closing DP and that project
opening another small projet (I chosed one that loads fast)
push play and listen just 1 second (just to be shure)
closing DP and that second one
opening the first project : all is fine
seems weird but it happens rather rarely by now.

By the way, I use OnyX and TechToolPro on a regular basis.
But DP 5.1 seems very buggy by my experience on Intel. Perhaps just fine for some others, but bad for MY macBook. Gilles says he's very happy with his one.

Thanks for that info, I'll give that a try. I am getting pretty good at fumbling for the fW lead at the back of the mac now though!

As to repeat, I just did 3 hours of recording with 5.1 on my macbook. Hassle free.

I am stumped by your problems, I genuinely wish I could be of help.

I havnt been n in a while, do you do a fresh install of everything????

If so, I am totally at a loss. I had one issue with my macbook so far. My internal Fujitsu drive stopped working. It spun up, but no data reads. Apple gave me a seagate that is working pretty well. Took 24 hours for them to get the replacement drive in the store for replacement. So basically, next day repair.

specially for you bark

found another trick for that "no sound" thing.

if sometimes at startup, DP shows audio playing out, on the right audio gear, but there's no audio at all there :
I just change back and forth to another clock source (even one wich does NOT exists).
just do that on transport window

seems to force to chek connection to my motu 828mk1
very quick and easy

How many of the people suffering from intermittent crashing hear a loud crack right before dp quits?

It happens to me about %20 of the time.

I have no Idea what it is.

Same here,

I just got an imacintel fresh from factory, I repaired permissions, installed DP 5.1, repaired again permissions, launched DP, and it's crash city !
especially when opening 4.6 session

I heard that noise once as well
Same crashlog here.
I wouldn't recomend to spend much time in OS reinstalation and all as it seems like a bug that motu have to resolve.

I am investigating a bit further.

it's crash city with my new "big" projects in 5.1
All of them are build over an old 4.6 project I always use when I create one. Acting as a template in fact.

it's an empty project wit 4 MIDI and 4 audio tracks, VI tracks, 4 aux and 1 master V-rack, 1 effect V-rack, 1 VI V-rack, only motu plugs.
This project, and others built in the same way, crash within few minutes after opening.
Same thing loading them with load command.

BUT

making a test with one of those projets :
I throw out all except one long 1 hour stereo audio track.
just kept also 1 master virtual rack, and 1 effect virtual racks, with motu plugs
hit play and repeat mode : it is runing for 4 hours now !

I'll keep on searching that direction, adding other tracks and else, one by one, and crossing my fingers.
