Purchase DP 4.61?
I thought I saw a thread on here stating that one could still purchase 4.5 and download the update for 4.61? I want to get out of 4.12, and off to 4.61 which I have read seems to be the most stable version since 3.11? MOTU only has 5.1 upgrades listed on their site. Anyone know the answer?
Thanks,
David
Thanks,

Hi Dave
Choosing between 4.61 or 5.1 depends a great deal on how you work. There are some bugs that have cropped up since 5.0 and a few that have been fixed...
Here are some of the good and bad issues I have found with DP 5.1
The good...
.. Input monitoring and several new features.
.. Track pre-rendering (this could help your performance as you are using G4's)
.. Some long standing MIDI bugs have been fixed.
The bad...
.. Auto-punch crashing (mainly with multiple tracks)
.. Bounce to disk dropouts (an intermittent but widespread problem)
.. Some various edge editing issues have been widely reported
.. MAS has been modified so many plugins need updating to work (mainly MAS plugins)
If you work with bands and need to punch in several tracks at once I would go with DP 4.61, if you can by it still buy it (perhaps if you talk to MOTU they will let you upgrade to 5.1 and give you a copy of 4.61). Also if you are working on existing projects DP 4.61 will have less or no issues with older files and plugins. Otherwise I think it is worth going to DP 5.1.

FWIW, DP 5.1 works great for me on my dual G4 quicksilver machine.SuperDave wrote:I want to get out of 4.12, and off to 4.61 which I have read seems to be the most stable version since 3.11? MOTU only has 5.1 upgrades listed on their site.
Remember that internet boards attract posts that complain. Those whose systems are working well aren't compelled to post.
At anyrate, you may be able to find DP 4.5 at some vendors. Unfortunately you are going to have to buy it either as a competitive upgrade, or as a new package. (because only MOTU sells upgrades)

New, Version 4.5
$449.95

4.5 Competive Upgrade
$379.99
Both places only have a couple.
Seriously, Dave, I would not do this. . .
I would just make sure I had a real clean system (no freeware junk etc), and buy the $200.00 upgrade to 5.1

Well, back when I purchased DP they had just released 4.5 and I needed 3.11 as I was still running OS9 and slowly moving to OSX. MOTU sent me a downgrade copy with no problem at all. It would be worth asking if they would still be willing to do the downgrade thing given appropriate reasons.

Can anyone tell me which fonts I should keep for DP?emulatorloo wrote:

Dave -- the only thing I worried about was making sure that I unchecked all the languages I did not need during install (i.e. French, German, Spanish, etc). And I didn't add any 3rd party fonts.SuperDave wrote:Can anyone tell me which fonts I should keep for DP?
A related P.S. to my quicksilver set up: billf recommended Audio Unit Manager to me too because I was having some problems w an AU that worked in one app but not another.
