power book or mac book?
HI i am new to this forum and the world of mac recording, i am about to embark on purchasing a system for myself. i have done extensive research and have come to discover that a mac with a motu 896 is a good combo,my question is should i fork out mega bucks for the new mac book pro for optimum performance or would a second hand power book do the trick

I'm thinking about purchasing a new Macbook Pro, also. I currently own the 896HD and run it on XP. I've run into a couple of problems (it works, but locks up XP every once in a while), not sure if it's hardware related or software related. Anyway... I'm hoping that the Macbook Pro will be a better computer to run it with. I haven't seen any recent reviews of the Macbook Pro running any DAW that's Universal Binary. All the reviews I find on the MBP are about the time it released and they talk about how everything should run better once a Universal Binary version of the software they're using comes out. I also heard that the new Macbook Pros will be out right before Thanksgiving with the new Core 2 Duo processor, so I'm holding out to see if this happens. If anyone is running a Macbook Pro with the 896HD, please let me know how it's going. I'm curious on the amount of RAM you're using and what DAW you use with it. I'd really like to know about your system if you're running it on the Mac side of the house (not running it with a dual boot Mac/WinXP system on the XP side). I plan on running Cubase 4, or something that is Universal Binary. I'm currently running Mackie Tracktion 2 with it.

I have a MBP and 896HD with DP5.1
According to many user on this board, DP is not quite ready for UB but the 896 seems fine. I don't have any problem with it.
