Check your sync option settings there and read about timing in the manual. This might or might not be the problem, but it's a good thing to check first.

I'm not familiar with the mkiii. If it has adat optical that you're not using, that's a good way to stay in the digital domain. Just connect output to input and do the appropriate routing in DP. I've used this method in the past with no problems.
