Re: Why Apple's "Tags" will change the way we organize files
We use metatags to catalog our audio assets, of which we have tens of thousands of files. We have custom programs that convert AIF's to Apple Lossless format, which can be tagged. The program automatically adds some tags based on what folder the file is dropped onto. We have another custom program f...

I said that the current Mac Pro's don't have thunderbolt or USB 3 or 6g SATA bus. I wasn't saying that iMac's don't.Aramis wrote:My iMac has thunderbolt and usb3

Re: Need some advice on buying a new Mac.
System 1 (the Budget)— iMac, 27-inch: 3.2Ghz with 16gb and a external HD to put my samples. The beauty of this system is I can use the saved money to upgrade all my software. System 2 (Big step up)—3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor with 12 GB RAM and two HD’s This makes the most sense on paper....

I do have two questions about that article. Thy say "a two-disk RAID0 may turn out to be slower than a single large-capacity SSD". I haven't seen that. Have you? Also, "More importantly, SATA RAID controllers, including those in modern chipsets, do not support the TRIM command. As a ...

No problems here with ML and CS6. Make sure everything is updated and remember that java now doesn't come with ML so you need to download it separately (not sure how to do that - one of my installers needed it and offered to download it for me, which was very kind and considerate of it).

Re: Rocket Dual eSATA 6Gb/s For MacPro
That's interesting. If I decide to buy a card I'll probably stick to a a couple of SSDs in RAID 0 and use TM, and manual backups. Primitive I know, but it's fine for my situation. Before you do that, see this: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storage/display/kigston-hyperx-ssd-raid0_7.html RAID sta...

Here's one I wish I had known about:

Another small company with interesting products. I jut bought their card which has two sata ports and two USB 3 ports, works great, driverless.

WD - Velocity Raptor for Projects, Samples and Samsung for b-up Server. And OCZ Vertex 2 for System. So far never failed and runs flawlessly. That is similar to what I used to do. But now I just load projects onto and from my boot drive which is an OWC SSD. When I'm finished, or don't need to work ...

High Point is a Chinese company. I've used many of their RAID cards, and I've compared them with cards made by Areca and others, and they look surprisingly similar, which leads me to believe they don't actually manufacture them, but have them manufactured for them and write their own custom ROM's an...

I bought the cross grade as soon as Peak announced they were closing. BTW, Bias promised to keep their authorization server up, but last time I checked it was down. Boy, do I feel burned by them. My company invested thousands of dollars in licenses and upgrades in that software. I had the reasonable...

Yes, I stand corrected on that, it's been awhile since I've had to open one.NazRat wrote:Agreed that changing the hard drive in the new minis is no picnic, but changing the memory takes about two minutes.

Re: Mac Minis with internal SSD or External Thunderbolt ?
I set this up for a user (using Logic, not DP). A few things to bear in mind: The current non-server models are i5 (2 cores), the server model is i7 (4 cores). I would prefer the i7 model with 4 cores, though it is more expensive. Also the max RAM from Apple is 8 GB, but you can buy 16 GB RAM from O...

Re: Help with Latency Apogee Symphony 64
Looking at your original post, you speak of a "chorusing effect". Are you sure you are not BOTH monitoring through DP and Maestro? That would account for a flanging or chorusing effect. If you are monitoring with the Maestro, you should turn off software monitoring in DP, and vice versa. I...

Re: Help with Latency Apogee Symphony 64
I have to disagree with you. It is easy to use and certainly there is nothing "non-professional" about it. It's just that if you want to track through plugins, such as reverb, without latency, then you are using the wrong equipment. Either use an outboard reverb and mixer, or use Avid/TDM ...
